Hi can anyone help me. I'm going to new york for Christmas and looking to see a show. Does anyone know of any discounts places ways to get cheaper tickets, we're both students but would love to go see something on Broadway we have looked at going to see wicked but was hoping to get it a little cheaper than the 180 that I'd seen.

You should be able to get a later flight with Delta, for the 6:30pm flight you'll be leaving Manhattan at 2pm, and there is also a 9pm flight, which means you can leave at 5:30pm.

First night is always a right off, because you're up early, and by 9pm you're heading to bed. I would personally wait and do a longer trip when you can. 4 nights is the minimum I'd look at doing.

The hotel is OK, but without knowing what you want, what you like, it is difficult to give a real opinion on it. If you want nightlife, and great restaurants, then no, it's not right. If you want to be near the buzz of Times Square, bright lights, etc, then you're good.

It's not in Times Square, and is actually half a mile away between 8th / 9th Avenue (honestly, why do they lie about their location), and if you're doing a short trip, you're in a great location for lots of subway lines there to whiz you around NYC quickly.

Many thanks, had hoped to stay in around Times Square and do all the touristy things (its my birthday), was hoping to do Radiocity xmas and a broadway show too, staten island ferry, TOTR, shopping and 911 memorial, am I hoping too much?

I looked at flights on Skyscanner and the last Delta one coming up was @19.25, Mark where do you get your info from?

Also would really value input on your accommodation recommendations.

Umm dont really want to have to leave mid afternoon, got some thinking to do

If you want to stay around Times Square, then you can't really go wrong with that hotel. I only recommend accomodations away from TS, because it isn't an area that I need to be near these days. It's great for a photo opportunity, and a wander around, but I feel it's just too busy and too many tourists walking slowly. I much prefer a village feel to where I stay, and consider Soho, Tribeca, or Williamsburg in Brooklyn my first choices, however, I do totally different things on my holiday than what you're aiming for.

As for what you want to do, I think if you plan right, and make the most of your time you should be able to tick all off that list. You've got 2 night time activities (don't do either on your first night!), and things like TOTR and Shopping can go hand in hand.

Staten Island Ferry and 9/11 Memorial can be linked together as they're in the same area too.

I've just glanced at Delta.com and you're right and I'm wrong, the 9pm ish flight doesn't run on that day you're travelling back. If you were to fly back on the 27th, it is there.

Wicked consistently sells out, and is never discounted, so you'll be out of luck there.. Check broadwaybox.com for other shows with discounts.

If you can and more so your first visit to NYC i would always catch a show . Its not world famous for no reason .(Most) shows are spectacular and you will always use that as a comparison to any other shows anywhere. Our favorite was The Lion King in the Minskoff . & I am not really a theatre goer more music concert goer if goer is a word.

You won't get discounts for Wicked.

Best tip for cheap Wicked tickets is to try and get a partial view tickets for the orchestra on the right hand side of the theatre. The "partial" view in the seats in that area is very very slight. I paid $75 to sit there, the seat right next to mine was $150, as it wasn't listed as partial view.

Go to Ticketmaster and when selecting seats use the map. If you mouse over the seats on the right hand side of the map in the orchestra section you'll see the cheaper seats if there are any left. If you look at the trip advisor review for the show you'll see someone has posted a picture taken from one of those seats that will show you how good the view actually is.
  • Hi,

Hope to get some experienced opinions on what is a good flight price.

My dates are 27/28-Aug-13, returning on 7-Sep-13.

Not all flights out yet, but Iberia (Codeshare for AA i think) from Manchester is £514.

Not sure what prices are like this time of year, or when is best to book.

    Advice very much appreciated :)

    Hi All

Now thinking on going 26th Dec to 31st Dec (although havent discussed with the wife yet :D), can pick up some nice Delta timed flights on these dates.

Are they advantages/disavantages in going on these dates?

Your help as always is much appreciated
  • Apologies if this has already been posted, but the Statue of Liberty's crown is reopening on October 28 and you can make reservations from October to December now at http://statuecruises.com/

More dates to be released in the future. You don't have to pay any extra to go up in the crown but you do have to make a reservation.

    More info here...

Could be a downer to come home on NYE?

Check out hotel prices - I don't know whether Xmas will be cheap (as few business meetings then) or pricey due to holiday season. Just check before you book :)
