    Hello,

I have read load of the posts on this website and a few other about New York, and I am really looking forward to going there next year.

I want to go over for my Birthday, which is 15th February next year, although I dont mind it being before or after by a few weeks if it means it will be cheaper, however I am starting to worry about when to book.

Am I supposed to be holding my nerve until at least November? or longer? I dont have a massive flight and hotel budget, looking at around £500 max per person (two of us going) for three nights.

Can someone confirm when would be the best time for me to book? It would make me feel better.

    Thanks
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

There will be plenty of bars that have a party on. I'm even sure that my local in Brooklyn would be a great place to spend NYE - South 4th Bar. Don't know what charges there would be, but I can always tweet them and ask.

As for airbnb. It was good, and I'll let you know who I stayed with if you want, and you can see if they do have availability over the new year period. Don't look at Apartments, as these are mainly illegal, so it is only the "Private Room" that is an option. Or, you could look to see if Hotel Le Jolie has reasonable rates for your dates.

You're not really looking around the Brooklyn area though, you really need to be a bit more specific. Brooklyn is over 80sq miles, so you want to be in the area that suits what you want to do. I would think that somewhere like Williamsburg is the area you want to be in.

NYE's is expensive, and I just hope you've budgeted a realistic amount.

    Thanks.

Yes that would be good to get the details of who you stayed with.. and also to tweet that bar! I shall have a look at the hotel too.

I have some family in New Jersey which we could stay with for a couple/few days as well which could cut down costs.

We were thinking of Williamsburg, Greenpoint or Prospect Heights or somewhere similar to those areas?

We've already put aside a lot of spending money, and asked for Christmas/Birthday presents in next few months to be only dollars!

Does anybody (M4RKM is probably the man) know if the PAYG TMobile USA network is getting 3G speeds on the iphone yet?

I know they were supposed to be improving their network but can't find any info to confirm if 3G is working yet. Thanks.

Hmm.. Flights are looking to be £420 return, so that's £840 of your budget gone. That least £160 or $256 for your hotel room. You've really got no budget for accommodation. Country Inn & Suites is normally one of the cheapest hotels, and currently this is showing $85 a night, so a total of around $300 including taxes.

Even this cheap hotel a short hop outside Manhattan is out of your budget. You need to be realistic, and up your budget!

Supposedly so, they've re provisioned their network to let the iPhone access 3G speeds.

    M4RKM,

Thanks for your reply, however I am a little confused, I have been on Lastminute, Thomas Cook and even the Virgin website who will combine a flight and hotel deal for me today for approx £550.

Should i be booking now then if this is what I am after?

Depends on the hotel. If it is the Hotel Carter, then steer clear, if you've suddenly got £100 more on your budget, then that changes things.

The thing with NYC is that prices of hotels can change by the day. Additionally, hotels in NY are never per person, and are per room, so it's really difficult to understand what your budget it.

£1000 and £1100 are different prices, and at a cheap time of year like February, you can some good deals. I've just glanced at lastminute, and nothing shouts out as a great deal, and are very bland hotels, but if you want to do an expensive city on a tight budget, that's all you really have as a choice. Personally, I'd rather save, and get a nicer hotel, in a great location, and stay longer too.

Hi thanks and for you advise, budget £800/£1000 each, is that similar to your cost? I must say youv'e got me interested now, if you could advise on when you booked and how late did you leave it before booking, and finally who did you book through. As you mentioned I want to make it magical and Christmassy all at the same time. Thanks for looking and helping. Sorry for all the questions.

    Hi again
Booked with Ba saw online and booked over the phone, great flight times too. Stayed at the Gansevoort park for approx 950 each - there were cheaper deals at other hotels but I had always wanted to stay at the G.

I always look for bargains during the year (part of my NYC obsession!) and found the deals when searching on BA. There were also good deals on lastminute.com

That was 5 weeks before the date 26-31st. So it was a last minute trip. It's my birthday over the holiday period so the perfect excuse :D

We also ended up getting cheap upgrade to club (Ba special offer) so all in all one of the best trips in terms of hotel and prices.

Feel free to ask questions. Happy to help :D

Hi if u can hold out i'd be tempted to say wait until next year after christmas as sales are on. A friend booked last year I think went Feb/March for approx 495 with Ba I think. Stayed in a hotel off TS they loved it.

Its difficult to know when the best time is... if u see something decent and are worried about prices going up book it and make sure you don't check prices again!

Thinking about going to NY in April (Easter holidays). Is it too soon to be looking for deals? Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost for 5 days? Two single beds in a hotel, preferably in Manhattan. Just looking for something with a low-budget.
