Could be a downer to come home on NYE?

Check out hotel prices - I don't know whether Xmas will be cheap (as few business meetings then) or pricey due to holiday season. Just check before you book :)

NYE really doesn't do much for me (I'm getting old:D), I guess I'm looking for advice on where to stay in TS and what are the pro's and con's for going around that time of year are. Thanks for the reply

Lots of advice already given about staying in TS, and many here don't prefer to do that. We have stayed in TS at the Doubletree Suites, and really liked it.

    Hi,

Hope to get some experienced opinions on what is a good flight price.

My dates are 27/28-Aug-13, returning on 7-Sep-13.

Not all flights out yet, but Iberia (Codeshare for AA i think) from Manchester is £514.

Not sure what prices are like this time of year, or when is best to book.

    Advice very much appreciated :)

That's a bit high for what I've paid in the past couple of years from MAN - JFK. Also, I wouldn't be worried about flight costs, but Hotel costs. Hotel Prices normally rocket and can be prohibitively expensive thanks to the UN being in session, and also Labor Day happening. I personally book in May for my September holiday.

    Hi All

Now thinking on going 26th Dec to 31st Dec (although havent discussed with the wife yet :D), can pick up some nice Delta timed flights on these dates.

Are they advantages/disavantages in going on these dates?

Your help as always is much appreciated

Hotels should be cheaper, though the 30th may be a bit pricier, but other than that I can't see any problems with the dates.

We have stayed in The Westin Times square and the Grand Hyatt next to Grand Central Station both very good hotels Westin was much better rooms beds service etc. Never done xmas but the run up to xmas (from thanksgiving) is very magical a bit hollywood type where you feel like putting a big hat and coat on and shout "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" across the st.
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

I will only need a hotel for part of my stay, doing a cruise out of NJ :)

Are we looking closer to £400 or more like £450 - wouldn't be too bothered about £50 diff, just unsure what to expect at that time of year.

    Many Thanks

  • Hello all!

    First post here..exciting!

My boyfriend and I are going to New York 27th December for 10 days..

    Couple questions

    - What to do for New Year? No to Times Square.. Anyone know anything about bars/clubs etc in Brooklyn area?

    - Where to stay? I have been reading through the last few pages and seen Mark's comment about 'slumming it' in a private room through airbnb. What's it like? Any advice? We would be happy slumming it... Looking around Brooklyn area.

    Thanks!

There will be plenty of bars that have a party on. I'm even sure that my local in Brooklyn would be a great place to spend NYE - South 4th Bar. Don't know what charges there would be, but I can always tweet them and ask.

As for airbnb. It was good, and I'll let you know who I stayed with if you want, and you can see if they do have availability over the new year period. Don't look at Apartments, as these are mainly illegal, so it is only the "Private Room" that is an option. Or, you could look to see if Hotel Le Jolie has reasonable rates for your dates.

You're not really looking around the Brooklyn area though, you really need to be a bit more specific. Brooklyn is over 80sq miles, so you want to be in the area that suits what you want to do. I would think that somewhere like Williamsburg is the area you want to be in.

NYE's is expensive, and I just hope you've budgeted a realistic amount.

Hi no disadvantages as far as I know as did the same last year :D
what's ur budget? I ask as we got a decent deal on a package booking closer to the time great flight times meant we got there early via B.A. And boarded at 1930 with a toast to Nye in the UK!

if you are looking for sales, the larger dept stores eg Macys will have on etc. Wrap up warm its cold but magical all the same.. We went on the NY river taxi which was great even in the cold :)

We stayed at the Gansevoort park avenue swam in the rooftop pool amazing! I prefer Murray hill area and personally would avoid staying in TS its bad enough trying to walk through in the evening.

Ahhh memories... Hmmm might start looking to see if there are any bargains

Hi thanks and for you advise, budget £800/£1000 each, is that similar to your cost? I must say youv'e got me interested now, if you could advise on when you booked and how late did you leave it before booking, and finally who did you book through. As you mentioned I want to make it magical and Christmassy all at the same time. Thanks for looking and helping. Sorry for all the questions.
