Ditch the Transfers. Seriously, that's expensive for a shuttle transfer. I'd get a taxi.... at $55 plus toll ($15), and tip ($10) that's cheaper than £35 each, and also you'll get to the Hotel quicker, as the shuttle could sit in the airport for two hours, and then go around every other hotel before yourself, it'll take easily 3-4 hours, instead of around 1 hour if you get a taxi. If you can't ditch the transfers, then just don't use them!

The hotel isn't the best, but the price is a bargain. I'm surprised it is so cheap, without having a saturday night stay in.
  • Thanks for your response guy's i'll have a look at BA but i think the flights are direct :O)
    :D
  • Hi!
I've got a horrible feeling I can answer this question, but I'll ask anyway. We're hoping to go and see Evita on Broadway on 29th November.

A number of websites have discount codes that pack in on 21st November.

If we hang on a little longer will discount codes become available or grit our teeth and pay full price as it's Christmas?

    Thanks

Nov 21st is the day before thanksgiving . After that week is the month (approx) run into xmas . All the shows are possibly already sold out . If not they will be and very little discounts will be needed to fill shows around that time . But good luck trying .
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
  • Hi, I've been trying to read through the thread to help me with this, but there are so many different flights and hotels that I've just got myself more confused.

Basically, I would like to take my 4 'children' (aged 14 plus) to NY next year as a treat for my 40th. I'm a single parent so it would just be me and them and also means my budget is quite tight. What I would like to know is - is it possible for the 5 of us to go for 3-4 nights for around £3000? We live in the north so flying from Manchester would be best, but am happy to drive down south if it would be more cost effective. Also, we don't mind if we have to share one big room to cut costs (I have one son, but he's used to being around loads of females!)

One small (or maybe large) problem is that I'm a teacher so I can only go in the school holidays... either early June or during the 6 weeks holiday. I know this is not ideal, and would welcome advice on which date might be better/cheaper, I know NY can get v. hot in the summer. Another option might be the October half term. I don't know if trips to NY are inflated in the school holidays like they are for Europe hols?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Sounds like they are very lucky children :)

    How old are they?

From researching for myself before I have found October to be a pricey month (might just have been the year I looked though)

Could it be done for 3K? my initial response is no. But it would be interesting to find out if it could be done!! Do you have dates for half term holidays next year you can post on here?

Also do you have any airmiles/avios or equivalent?

5 People for £3000. It will be tough.

It will be £450 each for flights, so that's £2250, leaving only £750 or $260 per night before tax.

A room for 2 people is around that at the cheaper times of year, so trying to find a room for 5, will be even more difficult. Looking now, the Eastgate Tower, which is a suite hotel is way over $400 per night..

I am just wondering if there is anything new touristy wise or anything a bit more off beat?

I have done the usual stuff quite a few times such as:
TOTR, Staten Island Ferry, 5th, HighLine, Times Sq, Accomplice etc.,

Now I am wondering about slightly more out of the way stuff, but we are pretty busy so out of (stuff I haven't done list):
Cloisters, New York Transit Museum, Coney Island, taking a day trip to the Hamptons (I have been to North Fork before), or something else I am not sure what to pick.
    <SNIP>

We enjoyed the Transit museum (mentioned previously in reply), walking through all the old subway carriages with the old adverts inside. Some of the cars were made of wood.

We have seen theMuseum of Sex on 5th Ave. from the outside and it looks fun, although I realise this will not be for everyone. From the copulating skeletons in the window with lights in their eyes to the notice asking you not to "touch, stroke or fondle the exhibits" it seems to be done with humo(u)r.

The cable car ride to Roosevelt Island (catch from 2nd Ave/60th St) gives great aerial views of the area, including a classic New York type vista looking down York Ave. From Roosevelt Island itself you get a great view of the Eastern side of Manhattan. Your metro card includes journey's on the cable car. Have a coffee at Starbuck's on the island then catch the cable car back.

(sorry I couldn't create the links to websites - I am not allowed to as a new user. But they come up on Google)

    Have a good time.

Hi My 16 year old DD would love to go to New York.....thinking of next year, probably April, but would have to be in Easter school holidays.
We can fly from either Newcastle or Edinburgh.....any advice on best (cheapest) days to fly?
Would like to fly direct, but seems very expensive.....so would change at Heathrow.
Which is the best airport to fly into/return from...and quickest/easiest journey into New York?

Finally.... I found a price of £750 each staying at Metro hotel including breakfast for 4 nights....this seems a good price?
It was with British Airways, flying from Newcastle

Had thought of february half term, but it would be freezing......

    Any help would be appreciated....:)

There are no direct flights from Newcastle, however, you can fly from there to AMS and then onto JFK. This may be cheaper than via LHR.

£1500 for 4 nights? Is it a good deal, well lets translate the deal into sections. I find this easier as hotels are different at different times of year, but also, I don't know what dates you've plugged into the system to get that price out.

£450 per flight, leaves £600 for hotel. This is $960, or $208 per night (before tax) for a room. (I'm assuming you're sharing a room).

Easter next year is the end of March, and Easter Monday lands on April 1st. So, looking at the Hotel Metro website (and bear in mind these are rack rates, so no deals are out yet, as you're really looking kinda early for next April).

Now, looking at the Hotel Metro Website, their rooms are $1471.34 for 4 nights over easter, so it is a good price.

Depends if you've chosen the same dates as me though. (29th March - 2nd April)
