I have returned from the gorgeous city. Weather was interesting heatwave with humidity, storms, rain then lovely hot (not humid) weather.

Its lovely to be home, but I do love NYC..

I am so excited! Boyfriend has just said he wants to go back to NYC for Christmas buildup - probably 9th - 23rd!

Our first visit was a week in April 2011, we had an amazing time but didn't manage to fit in everything we wanted to do inc. Brooklyn Bridge (!), Woodbury Common and Gossip Girl tour. Also really want to do Niagara Falls but guessing that's going to be a no-no in December!

Any ideas for December in NYC? So glad to be back on this thread and planning our return to NY!!

The flight on the way back is awful, as you spend a night in NYC, and get no benefit with having to get to the airport at stupid o'clock in the morning. Normally flights back to the UK are in the night.

Totally disagree with this. I love the daytime flights back-provided you live within a couple of hours or so of Heathrow. There's almost no jetlag at all as you esentially spend the day travelling and then go home to bed-and wake up next morning back on a normal sleep pattern.

However I'd suggest saving on the cost of a Manhattan hotel for the last night and traveling late evening to JFK and pricelining a hotel at JFK for the last night.

    Hi there
Just looking for a bit of advice. After much saving I am suprising my husband with a special birthday trip to NYC at the start of September! We visited once before back in 2007 but it was only for a couple of days and while we are both young and active, there was only so much we could fit into a short period. This time we have five days. I am looking for advice with tourist passes. I read a post a couple back about the Go Select pass which looks good but when I totalled it up, I think the 3 day 'new york pass' may be better for my needs. As it is a surprise I am not sure exactly what he will want to see but I have a fair idea and it is as follows:

    Top of the Rock
    On location movie tour
    Gospel tour
    Food on Foot tour
    Met
    Nat. Museum of History
    Guggenheim
maybe a tour of the UN
    Woodbury common

Until tomorrow the 'new york pass' is $140 each on special offer. Would this be the cheapest option or would I be better just paying individually? I am aware of the 'pay what you want' at the Met and History museums but I have read a couple of things online on various websites saying the admissions people really pressure you to make the full recommended donation. Is this other people's experience?

    Many thanks in advance!

Hoping to book the 48 hour ticket for the hop on hop off bus for our forthcoming trip to NY. Can anyone explain what exactly the following phrase means listed under booking conditions...."time of exchange " ??????

Your ticket is valid for 24 hours (Downtown Loop) and 48 or 72 hours (All Loops tour) from the time of exchange, not from the time of first use.

    Thanks

Firstly, I wouldn't book the 48 hour ticket. This is not public transport, and in NYC it really doesn't work as the hop on hop off scenario. Book the cheapest possible, sit on, do a loop, take a notepad and pen, and note the interesting parts you want to head back to.

Then, you spend $29 on a metrocard for the subway, and use that to get around. It is much much cheaper. these HOHO buses are extortionate, and go via a limited route, set, and stuck in traffic.

If you still want to use them, it means when you exchange your booking for the ticket to board the bus, that is when the countdown starts. Which is unfair really. The metrocard starts counting down on first use, which is more logical.

    Hello again!
I posted yesterday about the new york pass, the offer finishes today, does anyone have any advice? Also what about the 'pay what you want' have others felt pressurised to give the full recommended amount?
    Thanks!
