Apologies for being a bit dim here, but could you advise who this booking is through, looking to go to NY end of Nov time and seems a bit expensive so might try the dates you have booked. Cheers

depends. it is still valid on the way out, but needs to be valid for your whole trip. Now, if you are staying for longer than 3 weeks, then you need to renew before you go. If not, you're fine.

Half a story doesn't help in answering your question.

Not according to the ESTA website help section

Do travelers need to update their travel authorization if it will expire before they depart for the United States?
If a travel authorization expires before the traveler leaves the United States, the traveler is not required to apply for another. The traveler will need to apply for a new travel authorization through ESTA, however, for future travel.

I'm flying to JFK on 7th September to join a cruise ship sailing from Manhattan Cruise Teminal on 8th September.

My initial thoughts are to travel by AirTrain & LIRR to Penn Station NYC, then stay overnight in a hotel near Penn Station, then take a taxi to the ship on 8th September.

My problem is which hotel, & how to get the cheapest deal for it? Not looking for 5 star accommodation, just a clean & (hopefully) quiet room in a reasonable neighbourhood.

Having read http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-hotels should I use Priceline to get the best deal?

Your thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree that ESTA's only need to be valid for journey out.

We have train out of NY, so have gone for The New Yorker, close to Penn Station. Also means we will probably just get the train in from Newark (cheaper and probably faster!). That said, I don't know if it will be a good hotel, but here's hoping, we'll find out in 2 weeks!

Using a NewYorkPass card to try to "do" as many NY attractions as we can: already warned the family those 3 days will be a route march!!

    Can't wait!
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!
