Given the choice for similar price. The Beacon Hotel 3star OR The Intercontinental Hotel TImes Sq 4 star?0

Beacon. Much nicer area, and the hotel gets great reviews and is recommended regularly on TripAdvisor0

I have stayed at the Beacon and it is a great hotel, you have a kitchen so you can buy some great goodies from the Fairways supermarket across the road ( they sell everything!!)so you can eat a few meals in your apartment if you want to save a bit of money/have a rest!
Don't forget to ASK for a no smoking room, otherwise they will give you a smelly smokey one ( I suppose it depends on if you are a smoker or not as to how much that might upset you!)
The decor is ok and the cleaners do a good job, ask also for a higher room as if you are lower ( as we were, you may be bothered by a bit of noise from the Theatre).
The area is great, lots to do and not as noisy as busy ( and dare I say tacky-touristy) as times square, ( a place we passed through and came away from as soon as possible!!)
But it depends what you want. I wasn't impressed with the staff, but apart from checking in and out ( and let's hope you don't encounter any problems) you shouldn't need to have any contact with them.
Be aware though, there are some people who LIVE in the hotel/apartments, that may or may not potentially be a problem.(We had a neighbour who got up very early and switched on the telly whilst he/she got ready for work).
I liked the upper west side, but we are going back to the Marmara ( upper east side on 94 th and 2nd) the price is pretty much the same as the Beacon, but the staff are much nicer and the area is very residential so you get to feel like a native:)
Put it this way we stayed for 7 nights at the Beacon, 8 nights at the Marmara and when we go back we are staying at the Marmara for 9 nights LOL!
All depends on what you want from your holiday. ~Enjoy!0 -
Thankyou to M4RKM, greenface & jackieblack :beer::beer: for help, advice, links & pm's. Now booked the Country Inn Suites for our stay, hopefully will get my deposit returned, put a watch on CC inconvenient but probs necessary thanks to Aesop advice:beer:.
One BIG lesson learn't
Now hopefully can look forward to NY and all it offers:j
Even thinking of booking Country Inn for last night before flying back from JFK but will do further research as have to be at airport by 5am as booked morning flight back so would need to check transport options.0 -
Hate to say it but yotel looks too young for me . hahaha i am getting a little old . Looks amazing though
I am sitting on the terrace of the Yotel right now and there are a wide variety of ages and families although probably a noticeable number of young people. Really nice hotel (we are 33). The rooms are a perfect size and cleverly designed - you are in New York City!! How long are you going to be in your room?
Can't believe how quick it was to get here from the airport - an hour and a half from stepping off the plane to checking in (using the NJ Transit train)0 -
An hour and a half!?! That's crazy long! around an hour normally from JFK to Manhattan/Brooklyn.0

I was impressed. It was crazy busy as our flight arrived 40 minutes early and two other flights were late so the queue at customs was enormous but it moved almost at a walking pace. They had also taken all the bags off of the carousel and lined them up.0 -

Well, if you're happy, then that's the main thing, and luckily next time, I'll be doing immigration in Boston, as I'm heading there first!!

Jealous! It took us about an hour from Newark using the NJ Transit and walking to Yotel from Penn Station. What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...0 -
Hello, I love horse racing. Has anyone been to Saratoga racetrack? Or maybe I will stick to going to New Jersey and then see some of NY via the transit.0
