I've reserved a 2 bedroom apartment at 'Central Park Apartments' - [a 15m walk to CP, located on West 73rd]. 4 nights, for 6 of us is costing just under $900 with all taxes etc.

Probably illegal. I know of no legal hotels / apartment hotels on W73rd.

What's the name, and the link where you booked through?

EDIT - I've googled. If it is the WOOGO, then be afraid, be very afraid. And also, yes, it is illegal - http://m4rk.in/zcWBpp

You need to be extremely careful with vacation apartment rentals in NYC, as M4RKM has pointed out. Pretty much all of them are illegal.

YAY! Im just starting to get some packing done......we fly on Friday!!!! Silly question maybe........
Do most hotels have a hairdrier and iron in the room? Or atleast be able to borrow them? I really dont want to have to pack my hairdrier as well as straighteners!!

Oh have fun! Yes they should have them, I took my drier but I think someone blowing on my hair would have had better effect due to the voltage lol

    Have a great trip!

I miss NYC so much already its only been a week!

Thought I'd share this, seen in the latest issue of company magazine

20% off at apple core hotels until 29th February.

    here is the link http://thehotelattimessquare.com/gallery/

    and tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g60763-d249711-Reviews-The_Hotel_at_Times_Square-New_York_City_New_York.html

to book call freephone 0808 178 6363 and quote COMPANY accommodation taxes excluded.

Edit - looking at reviews they are good, but construction work going on next door which starts early.

I have never stayed there, but hope this helps someone and the prices are good too!

WooGoo is one of the ones that has sorta flown under the radar, however, the reviews of the UN apartments they illegally operate, well the reviews there are atrocious.

I understand cost may be a factor, but bear in mind that these apartments are being rented illegally, and there are numerous complaints of Illegal Hotel Rooms in Residential Buildings, one of which is only a few days ago - http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/OverviewForComplaintServlet?requestid=2&vlcompdetlkey=0001483422

and then another on the 30th December - http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/OverviewForComplaintServlet?requestid=2&vlcompdetlkey=0001482265

and another complaint about after hours renovations so they can illegally rent to tourists - http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/OverviewForComplaintServlet?requestid=2&vlcompdetlkey=0001452895

These are just three complaints (ignoring the ones that are about faulty elevators), and clearly state that the place is renting rooms illegally. Regardless of the fact that booking.com or tripadvisor advertise these, you have to remember that a company will take advertising money from anyone who wants to give it them.

Recently, the NYC Authorities have been clamping down on illegal rentals, and closing them. Imagine if that happens during your stay. You're out on the street half way through your holiday, and you have nowhere to stay.

What if it happened the day before you got there, and when you get there you find it's boarded up and you can't enter your apartment.

Be sensible, cancel it straight away, post your realistic budget, and your dates, and book a legal hotel or apartment style hotel for your NYC stay.

If we're in the mood for discounts, the Gem Hotel chain are doing a 20% off on a prepaid booking.

Book before 31st March for stays through to 31st December 2012.

    http://www.thegemhotel.com/GEM20/

Also, anyone wanting a deal between now and the end of feb, get signed up for quikbook e-mails, as they're doing some great rates in invitation only deals. They're not advertised and only available to people with the e-mail. Rates as low as $119 iirc.
