The kitchen is good for breakfast and last time I went to NYC we did have lunch and a take-away evening meal that we reheated in the microwave. It's not essential but useful.

Advice re accomodation is great. Should I book hotal and flights now or wait until nearer September ? Are flight prices likely to rise ?

We went last July and had booked in the previous November. Prices for flights and hotels crept up substantially over the months, and we couldn't have afforded to get flights and go to same hotel if I'd waited another few weeks. Might be different this year, but New York is always busy.

Any recommendations or experiences of any of the hotels on this shortlist please?
    Any advice/thoughts?

    Doubletree by Hilton - 128 W 29th St, between 6th & 7th Ave
    Grand Hyatt - E 42nd & Lexington Ave
Marriott Downtown - 85 West Street, at Albany St
    Roger Williams - 31st & Madison
Holiday Inn Midtown - 57th St

This is for 3 of us, self, DH & DD(16), we are flying into Newark on 22nd July and we have 4 nights to spend in NYC. First time visitors, hoping to visit SofL, WTC memorial, ESB, ToR, 5th Ave & shopping & maybe a show.
Easy access to transport to/from Newark would be useful.

    Thank you

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I stayed there in march last year with my mum. The room we were in had two double beds and was really big with plenty of storage space for cases, closet space, etc. The decoration is a bit dated, they are renovating the place so you might get a newly decorated room. We didn't have any noise from that though. While the decoration is dated, it was clean and did the job. No evidence of bed bugs in our room. Staff were really pleasant towards us. Location was great for getting the subway, loads of places nearby to eat and central park was a hop, skip and a jump away.

Don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews of trip advisor. I had won a competition so wasn't too bothered by them since i wasn't paying but a lot of people seem to moan for moaning sake!

    Hello all,

Am planning a trip for three adults for August this year for 7 nights. Last year (2 adult trip) stayed at The Westin which was great. Best price so far is £3800 for us all - is this good or should we wait until 3 months before departure? Can anyone recommend an alternative hotel which has a separate bedroom/living area with sofabed?

    Many thanks for your help

I agree. I stayed here in March 09' and it was fine for 5 nights. Really close to Central Park, and again loads of nice places to grab food. (Turn left out of the hotel and go to the Deli on the Corner - Delish)

Jackieblack Grand hyatt is a good hotel in a great location (right on grand central station) rooms are big enough and clean easy to reach all areas of your list but so are all the others manhattan is so easy to get around .Deans £1300 each(x3) for a week at the westin seems a little steep although £2600 for two isnt .Sounds like your using a joint website like last minute or expedia . Try splitting it check your flights with the airlines direct and our usual suspects kayak-opodo-fly-etc email the hotel direct and tell them youve stayed before and would it be better to book through them if they give you a good rate & google The Westin Times square and see what safe sites come up there and compare . Late Jan /feb is normally but not always a good time to book flights and hotels from UK to NYC & USA as ofetn sales or discounts can be found. haggle if you can and compare prices .emails be nice cheeky and honest . it has to be worth a shot . Good luck

    Thanks

Grand Hyatt is probably top of our shortlist ATM
Have spoken to someone who has been to Roger Williams, less keen on that now.
Also considering Staybridge Suites at Times Square, not such a good location I'm told (w40th, between 8th & 9th ) but good reviews on tripadvisor and complimentary breakfast

Staybridge Suites were on our shortlist this time aswell, as was Affinia Manhattan. But the first couldn't offer the room type we needed and the second was well outside our budget.

I still have a dream of stopping in the French Quarters Guest Apartments, but for this time it just isn't practical for us. Maybe when we go without the kiddlypeeps.
