Go for about $70/$80 each but a few bottles of wine will push it up. I like a nice steak and had the porterhouse x2 and strip but the lobster dish (mrs greenface)& chicken DD looked and tasted just as good . Theres a 48oz porterhouse club hall of fame (never done it yet but will do one day maybe) You will prob only have one "decent" thats seems wrong word but big proper evening meal and this wouldnt disappoint. London NYC gordon ramseys gaff looks good too.

i was looking for some advice. I am thinking of aiming to take my son to NYC next year, for maybe 5 days?

    He will be 14.
What is the best time to do this, and how much of a budget should i consider.

We would be looking to see a show, go to all the usual tourist haunts, eg statue of LIBERTY, Empire state, Times square etc.

I would ideally like to go from Glasgow but could consider England if its a lot cheaper.

Would it be feasible to look at this years flight prices to get an idea or is that too far in advance

    many thanks

Flight prices this year would be a guide, but without knowing how fuel prices and any new taxes could come in they'd be nothing more than that. For the extra cost of going down south train/bus/plane/parking you can often fly from Glasgow for roughly the same amount. Air Lingus via Dublin seems to be the cheapest just now, but Continental fly direct to Newark from Glasgow and they are often reasonably priced.

Hotels are the bigger cost in NYC in my opinion. January and February tend to be the cheapest months to visit, but with your lad in school the summer months July is probably best. Depending on your budget for hotel would see where you stay. I personally think staying just off Manhattan in Long Island City is a good budget choice. Somewhere like the Country Suites and Inn is about $150 per room per night and is an 8 minute subway ride from midtown Manhattan. For the same type of accomodation on Manhattan you'll often pay double that unless you can snag a deal.

Most of the "big" attractions you can see for free. Staten Island ferry is free to passengers and will give you a good view of Liberty, Times Square is of course free. I'd actually recommend going up the Top of the Rock for the view rather than the Empire State as then you can the that particular building. For a show keep an eye on deals on the Broadway box website.

    2) Have a look for show tickets on www.broadwaybox.com

May not have a deal on for that show, but worth keeping an eye on. Most times you can get tickets for long running shows reasonably easily. There is always the booth in Times Square if you can be bothered queing, or if you're happy paying full price just book direct at the theatre.
