Red Channel/Red lane, i guess it depends what country you travel to

Why don't you stick to ripping of the public because they brought an extra bottle of Jack back and ill stick to advising on travel :p

But i work in the UK and therefore its the red channel.

Thanks also for highlighting your naivety about what i actually do for a living.

Come on lets keep the conversation NEW YORK!! How are new posters going to feel they can ask something when its just pages and pages of aguements??
Also its not very nice for regular posters who enjoy reading and posting in the thread.
Mr Lahey when you first starting posting in thread you were posting helpful & informative information which was appreciated by all however I cant help but notice that recently you do seem to be getting lots of peoples backs up. I'm not suggesting that you have done this deliberate as you joke but sarcasm isnt always clear on the internet like it is face to face. For the sake of the thread can we all keep things friendly as we are not one of them threads who argue. The regulars get along very well, we may not always agree with each others thoughts & suggestions in posts but why would we when we all have different opinions and do different things on our holiday in NYC however we do get along very well and for us & new posters to thread am sure everyone would like to keep it this way :)

Has anyone done the backstage radio city tour before?

We did the NBC tour last time, it was fun actually - I've done the CNN tour in Atlanta too. Depends how much american tv you watch as to how much you recognise!

I've not done the Radio City tour but friends we were with did and they recommended it. These tours are very slick, if you're interested then its worth it.

Did that make sense to you?

Yes it did. Greenface makes complete sense.

Now, as has been suggested already, let it go.

My OH and our son did it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I, on the other hand, went shopping with my daughter instead and ended up really wishing I had done the tour as well!

The problem is that you get people who cannot take an opinion, who ask a question and if the answer isn't exactly what they want to hear then they get arsey about it.

When i first went to NYC i knew nothing and everything was trial and error, having been half a million times both for work reasons and for tourism i can say with authority i am well experienced in NYC. Now if people want to do the whole touristy Times Sq, $300+ per night for a 3 star hotel, NYC pass and the private ferry from Battery Park then that is fine.
But lets not forget some people on this thread will probably only go to NYC once, they may have saved up for a year or more for 4 fabulous days in the big apple.
Without wanting to sound arrogant i feel that i am very well placed to advise, as was Mark. You might have gone and thought Virgils did the best steak and in the weekend he went that might have been the case, but i have been to a million steak houses in NYC and throughout the USA, Whilst PB might argue he knows what he is talking about im telling you he doesnt - Imo Tribecca Grill is the best, though even that doesnt offer the intimacy i like. I am the sort of traveller who likes to sit in a restaurant where there are 3 tables and the restaurant is owned by a family who have worked for 20 years to buy the place.

I fully believe that the best parts of NYC lie deep below the surface and only those who have scratched beneath the surface will experience the best NYC has to offer, that rules out 99% of the users on here. Now Mark has gone that leaves even less. You and everyone else might like to point to the whole cliche tourist NYC, but 90% of people who go to NYC will get ripped off and experience nothing other than the fabricated NYC for the masses.

As I said in my post above your inital posts were very helpful however I've noticed (and I'm sure you have too) that recently it was your posts which contained sarcasm that seemed to cause arguements on here as its been taken the wrong way and then you have defended your post and just been a misunderstanding so it would obviously be better if this wasn't the case anymore.

You say, 'Lets not forget some people on this thread will probably only go to NYC once'
If arguements carry on as they are then people won't want to come on this thread at all. As you said Mark has now gone, this shows how its driving people away.

We all have knowledge on different things in NYC which is why its great we are all on here and some know more about dining or shops etc than others so then we can all post to appropriate questions to suit.

I'm sure Mark will come back to thread soon..... I certainly hope so :) we all know Mark he helps lots of people with there trips. There wouldnt be this thread without him.

Ahh theres always next time. I didnt even know about it until Radio City mentioned it in email. I send them a message asking the dates of the Radio City spectacular this year as couldnt find dates anywhere online ( turns out they havent been released yet). I thought price was very reasonable about $18 I think website said but sounds like its enjoyable so we will definatly do it. Sounds pretty impressive as says you get to meet a rockette which I think we will want to do after seeing the show.

Philippa36- I'd quite fancy doing the NBC tour at some point too. Glad to hear you enjoyed it may look into it do this year if not certainly in the future as I do watch quite alot of american programs.

IMO as in "in my opinion" and i have my opinion too, i never actually said virgils was the best steak i said it was the best in times square which is my opinion which, as previously stated, im entitled too given this is an open forum where people can voice their opinions/thoughts/observations.

If mark has gone then so be it, i've been knocking about this forum long enough to remember at least 3 other times he left the forum and it survived then and it will survive now, and mark knows ive got a lot of time for him but if he choses to have a diva moment then thats his choice.

Mr Lahey you seem to only be here to cause as much disruption as possible, and if as you claim, you spend as much time out of the country, half a million visits to the US its quite impressive by the way, im amazed you have time to lower yourself talking to us couch travellers.

    Things to do!!
