Personally I would always buy them before the trip, why anyone would want to waste time q'ing up when they get there is beyond me, add that if you wait till you're there then you wont know if they have tickets for the show you want to see.
Personally I have used:

before, for spamalot, and got discount tickets and printed them off before I flewLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Hi,
I'm looking at going to New York in March 2012, and have noticed that both BA and Virgin have a a sale on for flights and I can get a return to New York for about £900 for 2 of us, do you think it's worth booking this now or waiting a bit closer??
Also when is the best time to look for hotels to book for next year??
Many Thanks for any help.

Wait til a bit closer. I've paid £450 for a flight in September, which is high season. For March - which is low season, you should be looking nearer £350 as a good price for a return flight. This March just gone, i paid £345 from Manchester, and I recall that LHR flights were £325. With increases in fuel etc, I think £350 should be the target price.
When to book hotels, flights etc? For March - I'd say December. I always bag a bargain then! Either just before Christmas, or between Christmas and New Year0 -

Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying, I assume you mean that the flights would £350 each return if we waited till December, or £350 in total for both of us??

Hi guys and gals!
I've just booked a couple of nights at the brand new Yotel in NYC through their online booking system. However, I managed to save $50 by booking the nights separately... they have an introductory rate of $149 (+taxes) for some nights but not others, worth checking out if you're visiting soon! I may have to change rooms, but who cares...that's an extra Abercrombie t-shirt and a Starbucks just for walking down the hall with my bag!

As greenface has said, yes, it is each. I always quote an each price on flights, and a per room price on a hotel. I can however say £700 for your flights, and then you still see you're saving money on the £900 you quoted.

I'm looking about for some flights and hotel for my third trip to New York - possibly this September... expedia flight and hotel deals seem pretty decent during the first week of september... I'm part of the loyalty scheme at affinia manhattan as I've stayed there each time I've went - but they are rather expensive...
Was looking at the pod - bunkbed style...as all I need is a room (with either my mum or my best friend - not sure who is going with me yet)...
Just wondering has anyone heard of any good deals on flights? I've flown with Continental the past 10 years or so to florida/new york, so I am part of their loyalty scheme too...but If I can get a flight somewhere cheaper I would...I live in N.I - and usually fly out of Dublin as it's bit cheaper, and you go through immigration at Dublin - but if there were cheaper flights from anywhere in the U.K that I could get cheap flights to then I'd be willing to do that..
What about booking one way there and one way back? from different airports - is there much difference in prices - anyone any ideas... flights have gotten more expensive since when I went last christmas....0 -
snowydough - September is one of them times where hotel prices skyrocket in NYC. Anything after the first weekend, and prices really can get astronomical. This is where those expedia package deals will come in useful. As I'm travelling solo, I opted for a cheap deal, going for a shared apartment, basically staying in someones spare bedroom! Half the cost of hotels, and hell of a lot cheaper than what expedia is coming out at for a week stay, in a comparable hotel. (I have private bed, and private bathroom!)
The cheapest flights I've seen around, are Aer Lingus, so direct from Dublin, into JFK is an option. Have you search for your dates on Kayak? As for different airports, you can look at open jaw tickets. You just use the multi city option, and normally, there ain't that much different in price? Have flights got more expensive, yeah, they do year on year, but only by about £25.
September last year, I paid £425 for a direct flight from LHR, and this year, I've paid £450, but from Manchester, so the regional departure cancels out the increase in my opinion..

Thanks Mark...
When would you say is the cheapest time to travel?
I'm in final year of uni starting end september, so I was looking at start of September so I could get away before my hectic year begins (will be working flexi time with my company while doing final year)...
I was thinking of going at christmas again - I had such a great time last Christmas... (although cold but I managed to bare it after the weeks of even colder weather here in N.I before I went hehe).....
I was looking at 19th-24th Dec as my birthday is during this period... and I know the hotels are cheaper in the week before christmas compared to the start of December (I went 9-14th last christmas)...but the flights are a lot more expensive so that probably won't happen anyway...
My mum will not stay in anywhere except a hotel (snob lol)....but If I went with my friend I would look at other places like you said... where do you find these?
I've got quite a few trips planned for the next 2 years to New York (one before this christmas, one next summer as part of a 4week USA trip and then the NY marathon in 2012...with a possible business trip in the next year with work)....brilliant..0
