Why are some of todays sale prices on expedia and hotels.com more expensive than yesterdays non sale prices?
example Grand Union hotel 20/8/11 to 25/8/11 yesterday £500, today £533?
supply and demand? exchange rate fluctuations? Have you tried looking at quikbook or the hotels own website. The hotel itself has a rather basic website, but for August dates, have some deals on.
$175.00 for a single/double room, however, you'll save 20% on the price for a 4 night stay, so that works out to be $729 add on tax, which makes it $838 ish, or at current exchange rate (mastercard rate - no fees) £510.

thanks Mark
So bang on the money then, so much for the expedia 'sale'0 -
Greenface - just checked out the highline website, and it statesThe High Line is fully wheelchair-accessible, with a new elevator located at West 30th Street, and another located at West 23rd Street and scheduled to open by the end of June, supplementing two existing elevators at West 14th Street and West 16th Street.
So at worst, you can join at 14th street, and go all the way to 30th as of today, which is a good length to walk regardless.0 -

I'm not a fan of expedia, I'm not a fan of booking things as a package. Some people are, and that's fine, you do sometimes get good deals early on, but I always find, within time, it is best to book things separately, as you get better deals.
I'd personally hang fire to be honest. there are some secret deals on quikbook now, which do offer a much better hotel than the Grand Union.
If you want, I'll have a look at the deals, and try match them up to the hotel, to help you make a better choice.

I'd appreciate that Mark, I'm having trouble with the quikbook site, keeps giving errors0
-
it sometimes does.... click back, and resubmit, and it normally works first time....
Try this link - http://www.quikbook.com/getprofile.asp?Code=4909
for your dates it's only $139 before tax per night.
There are not many 4* hotels in Murray Hill, which makes it easier to guess which one it is. I'm 99% sure it's the Affinia Shelburne, which is a highly regarded property in Manhattan, and it's a bargain, plus a hell of a lot nicer than what you were already looking at. http://www.quikbook.com/getprofile.asp?Code=838

Can anyone recommend any good places to eat in Brooklyn. Steak place and pizza places. Leave in 6 days can't wait!!!!0

brooklyn is huge, if it were a city in itself, it would still be the 5th largest city in the USA. I'm going to concentrate on Williamsburg though, which is one of my favourite areas.
Starting off with Pizza, oh this is an age old question. Motorino, near the Graham Ave L station on the subway is really good, always raved about, not standard NYC pizza, but more continental personal style - some of the toppings are a little alternative too, but it's all good. - motorinopizza.com
Another alternative, on the main Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg (again, the L train), is Fornino - I've not tried this, but have had it recommended to me. It's on my radar for September when I hit Williamsburg next.
The final pizza place i'll harp on about in Williamsburg, is Carmines. More traditional, amazing tomato sauce, If I'm staying in the area, this is my go to for a delivery, if I'm having a night in!!
Onto Steak, well there really is only one place that I can think of - Peter Lugers - it's expensive, old school, and cash only. Be prepared for a shock with the prices though, it ain't cheap. Take the J to Marcy Ave to be closest to it.
Now, other food, well there is loads, amazing food in Williamsburg, most of it totally unhealthy, but amazing. Pies and Thighs, Fette Sau, Brooklyn Bowl (Bowling and food!), Egg, Dressler (top end restaurant here), Dumont, Dumont Burger, Rye. If you want real old school traditional italian, you can't fault Bamontes.
Here is my favourite review website of restaurants in Williamsburg - http://m4rk.in/ijhlHz - use the filter at the top if you want to change neighbourhood or pinpoint a cuisine etc.
Now, if you didn't mean Williamsburg, where else can I recommend. Well, I'm not a fan of grimaldis pizza, which is right near the Brooklyn Bridge, mainly because I see no point in standing in line for an hour just for a pizza. I could recommend some great peruvian chicken in Park Slope if you wanted.
Fingers crossed you have enough to go on there, really Williamsburg is the foodie scene right now. The problem with it though, is where do you eat? It took me 3 trips to Williamsburg to have breakfast at Egg... damn, I should have gone earlier, as it's THAT good.

I go to NY on the 12th December for a week . . . . .So excited!!
One of the things I would like to do is take my mum to see a show. Bearing in mind the time of year would I be best to book before I go rather than risking getting tickets when I get there?0 -
