Is it just from JFK or can I book it for arrival at Newark too? I'm looking for a cheap and easy way to get from Newark to my hotel nr Penn station if anyone has any ideas that would be great x
As Duchy has mentioned, it'll be worth investigating into the AirTrain and NJ Transit or Path combo getting into Manhattan. I use it most times from JFK, as it is just so cheap, and takes about the same amount of time.
As you're staying near Penn Station, all you have to do is get the Airtrain to Newark International, and change to an NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station. Make sure you don't get off at Newark Penn Station, confusing name, but still not in NYC. New York Penn is underground, and dark and dingy, so you will tell when you're there.
Beforehand, just look at a map, and find out which exit of the station will get you closest to the hotel, 8th Avenue will be closer to The New Yorker Hotel, and 7th Avenue, is closer to Macy*s, etc.

Just thought I would put down a few notes regarding our recent city break in New York. I had lots of help and ideas off this forum, so hope that my report will help others!
First of all - New York is FANTASTIC !:j We travelled as a family with our two young teens. They loved it. My daughter loved the shopping especially! (totally spent up!!)
We travelled with Virgin Airlines who were fantastic - best airline we have flown with - staff were very chatty and obliging. I chatted for ages about New York with one member of staff! The seat back TV screens were a god send! Over 60 films, music, games, news etc etc. Kids were happy the whole journey!
We stayed at the Westin Times Square Hotel. Great hotel, very peaceful once inside, as it was nice to get away from the crowds and noise outside. Location ideal for us. Didnt eat here, as ate out everyday. Virgils BBQ diner some nights, The Boathouse at Central Park, street Vendors, Irish Pub (not sure of the name!) All the food we had was lovely but HUGE portions! Our room at the Westin was on the 40th floor overlooking Hudson Bay. Very Clean, very modern, would definately recommend it.
I actually managed to see/do all the sights.attractions on my list apart from one! We walked most places, but towards the end of our 4 night stay we did Taxis due to blisters on feet!!:rotfl:
Very easy to get around - easier than London. Even my kids knew where they were heading for and actually showed me the way sometimes! Did not use the Subway so cannot comment on that.
TOTR - Lots of queues - but went at wrong time (11am) good view at top though
ESB - Went early and no queues (9am)
Walked Brooklyn Bridge
Times Square - was only round the corner so went everyday! Kids loved it here also.
Statue Of Liberty & Ferry - great time here, little queues
Macys, Bloomingdales, Apple Store, A&F, plus many more!!
Grand Central Terminal - Magnolia Bakery - yum!
China Town
World Trade Centre - very interesting but very busy round there
Central Park - Our Favourite so went twice!
Plus much more!!!!
We found everyone very friendly and helpful. Did not feel threatened at all. Weather was fabulous apart from small amount of rain one afternoon.
All in all - a great holiday that we shall remember!

Hey. Got booked up in The Jane hotel. My mate booked it. He was happy with it. He's very picky so we just let him choose.
Where do i go to apply for this visa waiver?
And where would you recommend going for places to eat & drink?0 -

We're going to be in New York at the beginning of August for four nights, and for our family of four (kids aged 10 and 8) the prices are very high - even the youth hostel was going to be $170 a night!
Just to compare and contrast Nobjocki's view; I took my daughters to NYC for four nights when they were 9 & 12, and they absolutely loved it. They are reasonably well travelled, and it's the place they talk about returning to most of all0 -
JUst find out where you are staying then head in another direction each day 10 days is a long time i NYC and you will have lots of time ti do it, (can someone do the linky thing for the google map of NYC) Make sure you leave lots of you time to do thing you didnt know. My OH & 2 kids went to Madame Tussades while in NYC they loved it as theyre big movie buffs , i dont give a fig and went for a walk & few beers where they didnt. Split time greatly used . Glad you enjoyed The Westin the views are great we stayed 43rd floor very peacful in the middle of the madness/:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

my 5th trip is coming up, with an added wedding this time
3rd June - leave Heathrow 8pm and arrive JFK 1035pm
4th & 5th not sure yet
6th the day of the wedding gotta get a train out to Greenvale at 12pm but I'm getting the last train back to Penn station at 1045pm
7th not sure yet
8th - I have most of the day free and getting the 22.40 back to London
Not booked my hotel yet but I have a couple of choices. I stayed in The Jane last year which I loved but from varying reviews it seems to have a massive bedbug problem at the moment so I'm loath to go back...
I'm going to the MoMA as I love it there and the Met as there's an exhibition I want to go to about Women and Fashion. The 99c stores are a must for me and I want to try and find some more vintage shops...
I've been so many time it feels like a home away from home, it's my place to relax when I need a break from work
My friend and I are catching the same flight back! It's a small world! lol0 -

Erm. You're getting the flight in 2011, I think they might have got the flight back in 2010. Just guessing obviously.0 -
