I am sooooo excited - we're off to New York for 5 nights on 7th March flying Continental to Newark and staying at the Sofitel near Central Station. Just sorting out what we're going to do etc as it's my second time there and the fourth for my husband. On the list are Wicked, as I've never seen a Broadway show (tickets booked cheaply and Quidco - thank you Attractiontix!), Gugenheim, the Met (hoping to see Lucia de Lammermoor), some ice skating at Rockerfeller and Central Park.

However, now that we can actually afford it (previously done the freebie staten island ferry) and have time we're trying to get to the Statue of Liberty - but I was trying to book through their official website for crown tickets and failed miserably as it says everything is fully booked until May. As such, can anyone recommend any other brokers or is that the Statue of Liberty off our list for this time around?

Also I'm really keen to explore more of the City, especially Brooklyn etc - are there some must see sights or personal favourites you would recommend? We're a late 20s couple who love to go get lost and explore and, I dare say, are very adventurous. We love culture but also fun and can be very kid like given the chance! :D

Would heartily recommend exploring Brooklyn - lots of great independent clothes shops and good bars. If you find yourself there on a Friday early evening Brooklyn Brewery is open for drinks - usually really busy and buzzing and you can see all the brewery equipment plus you can ring out for pizza and they'll deliver to you!

Got a great feel for CSI New York too as a lot of the filming is done there too.

Actually, all CSI Shows are filmed in LA.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Open to a poll where is the best/where would you consider more- For Ice skating in NYC would you (even if you havent) Go to Rockafella or Central Park. My personal choice is Central Park its bigger cheaper with a better view . There are more people on the Ice but the queues were less I enjoyed the rock but enjoyed people watching more at CP also

Totally, I've already posted a Williamsburg bar crawl/epic mission, and always suggest people get into the boroughs.

In NYC for my birthday? how thoughtful. Brooklyn is great, I'd advise Williamsburg for the area to explore, Get on the L train 1 stop into Brooklyn, and get off at Bedford Ave. Do my epic pub crawl, one night while you're out and you might even come across the often spotted M4RKM propping up a bar somewhere.. :)

I've posted a bar crawl around Williamsburg a few posts back.

  • I'm just looking at booking transfers with Carmel for when we go in April but can anyone confirm if the price is each or per car (3 of us $45)?? Also it states that under 7's must use a car seat that isn't provided - my son is 6 (7 in Aug) but is big for his age, does anyone know how strict they are with this? Will they check his passport? Don't really want to drag his booster seat with us so will have to look at other transfers.

    Thanks.
  • well back today from the most fab time ever, too tired for trip report , will do one later, thanks for all the tips and hints, they all paid off, and we def had the time of our lives!! jane
  • We did the statue of liberty on Tuesday and I'd managed to get crown tickets. As they are all sold out now for months if you can get the pedistal tickets then I'd go for that as they are the next best thing. I hate hights and had worried about the climb to the top but to be honest it wasn't a bad climb at all. If you've ever climbed a bell tower in a church then it's no worse than that. There are rest platforms every 10-15 steps so you can stop for a breather if you need to. Just be sure to get to the ferry early in the morning - we arrived at around 9am and there was already a queue and it took us 30 mins or so to get through security. We went in the reserved line even using our 1pm reservation tickets - the chap who was checking didn't bat an eye however the woman in the ticket booth had told us we had to wait for the 1pm ferry! In total the trip from arriving at Battery Park and back took us 5 hours! Quite a bit of waiting around was involved but we both thought it was worth it!
