Getting Married in New York on 26th April ..... super excited. Only thing not arranged is where to have dinner after. I have looked into a few places but can't decide maybe you could recommend. We would, ideally, like somewhere with a view or at least somewhere special. No real budget. I am not a really fussy eater however am not a huge seafood fan.....suggestions/recommendations would be great.

Oh and getting married in Central Park, but we are happy to travel :)

    Thanks guys
    Karen

You could always try the Boathouse in Central Park - that is a good restaurant with lovely views of the lake and park.

Or what about The River Cafe - we went there as well - its at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and the views across the water to Manhattan as the sun goes down is absolutely amazing. The Bridge is overhead as you sit on the terrace and you can see the fairy lights come on as you sit sipping your after-dinner cocktails - might need a coat in April but still an incredible experience. Pretty pricey but as it's your wedding day......? You need to book pretty far in advance - we phoned from here and booked and they have a website you can take a look at. Try the Brooklyn Bridge Chocolate dessert - I still think about that one !!!

I am sooooo excited - we're off to New York for 5 nights on 7th March flying Continental to Newark and staying at the Sofitel near Central Station. Just sorting out what we're going to do etc as it's my second time there and the fourth for my husband. On the list are Wicked, as I've never seen a Broadway show (tickets booked cheaply and Quidco - thank you Attractiontix!), Gugenheim, the Met (hoping to see Lucia de Lammermoor), some ice skating at Rockerfeller and Central Park.

However, now that we can actually afford it (previously done the freebie staten island ferry) and have time we're trying to get to the Statue of Liberty - but I was trying to book through their official website for crown tickets and failed miserably as it says everything is fully booked until May. As such, can anyone recommend any other brokers or is that the Statue of Liberty off our list for this time around?

Also I'm really keen to explore more of the City, especially Brooklyn etc - are there some must see sights or personal favourites you would recommend? We're a late 20s couple who love to go get lost and explore and, I dare say, are very adventurous. We love culture but also fun and can be very kid like given the chance! :D

Thank you MSErs, you've changed my life.

    Decent reviews on tripadvisor:

only problem i'd see is the location, 95th and broadway is quite a way up the island, however it depends what you want, ie it will be quieter than midtown, but do you want quiet?

One major plus is that theres a subway station on your block, which is a big plus factor for me.
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
  • Hi Avisute. If you're considering Brooklyn why not do a guided tour with Viator tours. We did the Best of Brooklyn - sights and food tour last April departing from Greenwich Village. Felt ' safer' doing it as part of a group and was not disappointed! Our guide Isacc, a local Brooklyner, took us round the sites where we tried a variety of culinary specialities including knishes(much like our cornish pasties but minus the pastry), cuban sandwich and lunch in a Polish restaurant. Also had complimentary chocolates at a fab sweet factory!
He also took us through a predominantly Jewish area where he explained all about their customs and way of life- really interesting. Got a great feel for CSI New York too as a lot of the filming is done there too.
Tour group fitted into a minivan, there were 2 US citizens from LA, a family from Australia, an American student and my hubbie and I. Only drawer back initially was that Isacc was the one to break the news to us about the volcanic eruption however that became the best news ever as gave us an extra week in NY, FREE!. yey!!:T

Thanks that's a good idea and sounds really fun, although we do much prefer doing things under our own steam. It always leads to unpredictable adventures!

Thanks greenface but I think NBS are actually going to be the best option for us. Newark isn't that far from Cape Liberty (8 miles) and as we won't have internet access on the cruise (unless we pay for it!) it means we can get checked in first thing in the morning also :D Win!

We might just head to Jersey Gardens, I know, I've heard it isn't that great. Or if we're brave we might make the journey back into Manhattan if there's something we miss in our days before the cruise.

Is it SO important to go up to the Statue of Liberty crown? Why not consider a Pedestal/Museum ticket for $20 each including ferry to both Liberty and Ellis Island. There are still times available on the official website for the dates you are in NY.This will take you up to the plinth at the feet of the statue and is quite a climb in itself. The next trek up to the Crown is via a narrow spiral staircase and an additional x amount of steps to climb. If you're not a mountain goat , the pedestal has equally impressive 360 views.

I personally would do the helicopter ride. It is an experience and we loved it. It was not too expensive - we paid about £30 for 20 minutes with Liberty Helicopters which I dont think was too bad.

Did you book heli tour when you got there ?:j
