We are staying in Times Square,
Empire state building is only round the corner from our hotel.
Times Square is on 42nd and broadway and esb is 33rd and 5th so if you are staying in times square esb is not just round the corner.
Personally I would'nt pre-book a ticket for esb as going up is somewhat weather dependant, for instance you could pre-book and the weather could be foggy/rainy and you'll see nowt, its best to sort it once you're on the ground.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Ok thanks. I put round the corner 'cos it says that its approx 1 mile from the hotel (I forgot it's the US so that may mean at least 10 miles lol)
I'll wait then till we get there. I didn't know what to do for the best and I was just reading other ppl's posts IYSWIM
I'm more concerned/confused about Liberty should I pre-book or wait and see?BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Dont wanna be pedantic but liberty? I take it you mean the statue of liberty?
You have three main options, you can get a free view from the staten island ferry, or book one of the official sol visits, which of course costs a lot more and takes a lot more time, or take a cruise with one of the multiple companies that stops beside the statue for pic op's. Personally i, and my travel mates are always happy with the staten island optionLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
One other quick point are you doing empire state to say you've done it or for the view.
If its for the view then I would suggest you dont bother and go up the top of the rock instead. That way you can see central park and empire state itself, after all you wont be able to see it if your standing on itLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Just asked DH and he just wants to see it, tbh so do I, so the free ferry sounds brill.
Re ESB, it's a bit of both really, but will look into going up the top of the rock as well.

You can book your statue of liberty tickets at https://www.statuecruises.com which is the official site. :j
We ended up going the ESB simply because there was no body there at all when we walked past! No queues! Next time we go we'll do TOTR though0 -
Hi.
Im hoping to take my DH to NY in December.....it is going to be a surprise, Im finally cashing in my Airmiles (cheers Mr T!) Im debating going for New Year, the Airmiles prices are the same whenever so wont be more expensive, although Im sure the hotels willbe scandalous??
Has any one been for New Year???? We can only manage 3 or possibly 4 nights so not sure if going for NY will be too consuming of time?
Also, do I book flights to JFK or Newark????
I will ask this question wh8ile im here and will go and check 4 myself how much are airmiles quoting for NYC ?? hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

Its 5000 miles return, but that is the same all over Christmas and New year.
We have decided not to go at NY now as Im guessing it will be completely mental!! It will be early january when the schools have gone back.0 -

Thanks.Try Dial 7, they're also a good company for a transfer from the airport.
Your other option is to just get a taxi, where that requirement won't happen, and that is a fixed rate of $45 plus toll and tip.

Thanks, our flight back is 9.30am so would need to get a cab back quite early - would we just try and flag one outside the hotel or can we arrange one beforehand?0
