This week they have an offer for a 1 bedroom suite at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel for $159 plus tax. Dates are available up until 7th July.
I've just booked 4 nights in May, taking my Mum for a treat. The total with tax was $760, a bargain for New York.
Hopefully others will find the offer useful:

The rate is also cancellable (is that a word?), as long as you give 24 hours notice.
Thank you so much! Just booked a 1 bedroom suite for our stay in April - I'm really going to enjoy my 40th! I can't wait now“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Easy one this. Walk out of the Cosmo at west broadway, and head towards the HSBC which you'll see across to your right. Cross the road again there, and Morgans Deli is just a little treasure trove. Head across to there for breakfast to take back to your room, bagels, cooked, juices (loads of choice), though I think the cosmo are including something free til april, which is a first,
If you want great wings/beers, walk out at Chambers Street, and go across the road to Mudville 9.
If you want other pub grub for a change (the chicken nachos are good here), then head towards Morgans Deli, and a bit further down the road past the Pharmacy on the left is Reade Street Pub & Kitchen....
get on the subway from outside the hotel (the 3 train), and head to 14th Street, change for the L train and get off at Bedford Avenue, which is the first stop outside of Manhattan. Walk out the bedford avenue entrance, and you're in the heart of Williamsburg. In the evening check out Brooklyn Brewery, it's only open on a Friday, and well worth a visit to be inside the brewery, and also sample some great brews. just hope you're not too tired after all the travelling,
There are plenty of places to check out in Williamsburg, like Radegast Hall & Beer Garden, Spike Hill, too many to mention (which is why I made a map with them all on - nyc-map.com/brooklyn.php
If you want vintage, there is plenty around, maybe head across on a saturday or sunday, and head to Brooklyn Flea, which is on down in Park Slope, at the old Williamsburgh Bank Building - brooklynflea.com

Thanks so much for all this. If you see a confused looking English couple then feel free to shout. Ha.
Bedford Avenue does seem the place to head over to so we will spend some time there. Ideally the holiday won't be too intense and there will be some good time for just walking around and finding things. That bar map is insanely good. Cheers!
I also meant to mention The High Line as somewhere I really want to go. Has anybody else been? thehighline.org.
Thanks again Mark for all your help.0 -
Hi,can anyone help me please,my son is planning a trip to new york shortly but has been told he needs a credit card when checking in.
For several reasons he does not have one.
Can he use a prepaid on or any other idea's to get round this?.
Hi,
We were also asked for a credit card at check in but as we didn't have one, they were allowed us to leave a $200 deposit or debit card details. That's obviously just our experience and may not be applicable if they have already specifically asked for a credit card!0 -
Depends on the hotel. Some hotels want a swipe of a credit card, others don't. The (moneysavingexpert) famous - Cosmopolitan Hotel, doesn't need a swipe of a card, and can be prepaid via hotelconxions.
A Prepaid card is a perfect solution, if you only put on the money for the hotel, they will swipe that, and it'll be held, so it can't be spent.

i tried paying with halifax and nationwide debits theses were declined.
they only accepted cc not too sure onpre paids though0 -
think you have to click CC because debit card in USA are treated differently Phatbear knows more

Did you book for your thanksgiving dinner? We quite fancy juniors, but we are open to suggestions.
If you don't mind me asking which type of room did you have? Was the ice skating on in Bryant Park then?
Sorry, I've only just seen your post
Yes, we booked our Thanksgiving dinner - there were 7 of us. Juniors is fab, you have to try the New York cheesecake in NYC! The only problem is deciding which one to have.
We stayed in a Superior room, very comfortable, not the cheapest but definitely worth a little extra at the time.
We've booked the Affinia Manhattan this time - cheaper but a great deal for our trip in April.
Have a great time.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

That is wonderful, I will book juniors soon so we don't miss out.
I am fairly certain on the Bryant Park, been thinking about splashing out and having a suite, make it a bit special like!0 -
Right, following Mark's advice, have booked the cosmo via Quikbook on a cancellable rate as we're not going til oct and I'm hoping to find it cheaper nearer the time......
But, the price of $200 per night is excluding all taxes....can anyone advise how much this is likely to be on top?
Also am desperate to see some kind of NY sport whilst there, have heard that basketball tix are like gold dust so am thinking of American Football - can anyone recommend the best way to find tickets (or even if there is a game whilst we are there? 1-4 Oct)
Thanks in Advance

Hi all,
I am travelling to NY in less than 2 weeks, departing LHR on 24 Feb and returning early morning 2 March. I have been a ‘lurker’ on this thread for a few weeks and have found it very useful and am very excited for my trip!
I am travelling with a friend and we are staying in MidTown Manhattan.
I have put together a draft itinerary and wanted some advice on how feasible it is and any improvements/suggestions that could be made. As it is our first time in NY we want to focus on seeing the main tourist attractions and do a fair bit of shopping!
We arrive early evening on the 24th and are planning on depositing our bags at the hotel and heading to Times Square for a meal so we can see it at night with the lights etc.
Thursday we want to take in some shops on 5th Avenue, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Times Square and TOTR (with ice skating), but am unsure of the best order to tackle these in? We are looking to go to a cocktail bar in the evening.
Friday we are heading to Century 21 early to avoid the manic crowds. We’d then like to take the Staten Island Ferry, visits the TKTS booth at Seaport to get tickets for an evening show, visit Ground Zero, and walk Brooklyn Bridge.
Saturday we are going to NJ as my friend has family there and we are spending the day at the Garden State Plaza Mall to make the most of the lower tax rate there! We are having dinner with her family there and returning to our hotel late Sat night.
Sunday we’re really keen to take in some ‘real’ NY, so planning a walk around Greenwich Village, Tribeca and Soho. Am looking into seeing a gig for the evening.
Monday we’re on a 9pm flight from JFK so have the majority of the day for more sightseeing/wandering about. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to tear the above apart- really want to make the most of our time there.
Also, is anyone aware of any good cup cake shops?! And has anyone got any advice for visiting NY during Restaurant Week?
Thanks in advance.0 -

What you have planned can certainly be done.
My pointers:
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island don't appear on your itinerary but are well worth a visit. Give at least 1/2 a day and make sure you get the official ferry at Battery Park.
Ground Zero - Well, its really only a building site all boarded off so you don't actually see much and to be fair except for the museum and memorial isn't much there. But if you do go then make sure you walk straight West to the coast and walk down through the park and do some fishing.
I would avoid Times Square restaurants, over priced re heated gash. Walk a little further south, maybe ten minutes down Broadway for some amazing small family restaurants. The walk from Times Sq to the Empire State isn't far so head down there for a mooch and then walk up to Grand Central station.
5th Ave runs from Central park, so walk from the park down 5th and then eventually you will come to W 42nd (iirc) then head for Times sq.The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0
