New York is the one for me, I'm afraid... At least for the foreseeable future!0
-
I did all the shopping things on my first trip, so maybe four days WOULD be enough, as there's a lot of things I did last time that I wouldnt need to do again
I'm working on about a grand for flights and hotel for two of us, and 300/400 quid spending money each... I dont want to stay in a hostel, or anywhere with a shared bathroom...
I never fancied it either however stayed at the pod hotel and although we had private we seen the shared ones and they were very clean and in the future it definatly wouldnt let it put me off.
.
Although you want to go this year maybe you would be better waiting a while longer to save up? time will fly by and you will be there before you know it.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -
I can highly reccommend the Westin Hotel Times Square - you can usually book it cheaper through Expedia or Alpha Rooms or Travel Republic than their official site. Literally a two minute walk to Times Square itself, one mnute from the subway which is great and lots of places for breakfast nearby (yes including Starbucks and McDonalds). Nice hotel, the comfy-est beds EVER and the shower is great too! Highly reccommended.0

dates are deffo flexible. So going over on a friday and staying the saturday will mean its cheaper? When checking just the flight prices, weekends seemed alot more expensive!?
Flights will cost a lot more at the weekend, but if you include a Saturday night on your trip you usually find that your return flight price will be a lot cheaper.
Try getting a flight price for leaving on a Thursday and returning on a Tuesday for example.0 -

Can anyone tell me is £500 ok for a 4day trip to New York staying at a 4* hotel in mid march this year? (This is through the BA site)
We are planning to go on monday morning (15th march) and come back thursday evening (18th march).
I did look at the Cosmopolitan hotel which was very cheap however with the flights being so expensive it comes to around 450ish so id rather spend that little bit extra and stay at a 4/5* hotel.
Anyone any advice? Should i wait another week or so? Or will the flights go back up again?
Thanks all
Randomgirl
Hi Randomgirl, i would say £500 is fine, i paid roughly that much in November for 4 days, fri - mon and that was through Expedia, and ther flights were not even direct, we had to stop at Brussels, so if you have direct flights as well then i would say go for it.
It is an amazing place and i am dying to go back:D0 -
I understand this is the New York thread and New York is a fantastic city - But there are loads of other places that blow it out of the water. Both Venice and Rome are better than NYC, Paris isn't and neither is London, I know you won't get to the Far East but Beijing and Singapore are better, in terms of the USA, Las Vegas, Denver and Washington DC all better than NYC.
In my opinion of course, but going by what you said you'd be as well getting a flight out to Rome or Venice.
Venice and Rome are nice but they are NOT New York i'm afraid.
New York is it's own world, not comparable.0 -

I disagree.
Once the novelty of being completely overshadowed by huge buildings straight out of Spiderman wears off, and the usual sights have been visited New York does remain one of the USA's best cities, but i still think it has nothing on Rome or Venice.
Unless of course you visit in Winter, then there are few cities on earth that would come anywhere near the magic of Manhattan. The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
Mr Lahey, this is the New York thread, people come to discuss things New York, and I'm pretty sure the title says that, I just can't work out why you wish to mention Rome, Venice and any other destination, if people wanted to go, and want information about them, surely they wouldn't post on a New York thread.
Flights are normally cheaper with a saturday night stay included, depends how people look for flights, depends what price you get.... Also, I have to say that star ratings mean nothing really in NYC, and why pay more for a higher star rating, which may give you the same standard of room, but a room service menu, or a mini bar, that you may not use, that could be the only difference.
I am forever grateful for you enlightening me that this thread is titled 'New York'. Now, since you have proven you can read how about you scroll back up and see that my response was in response to someone saying how much they would love to go to NYC but couldn't afford.
I was merely pointing out other great cities as an alternative.

On thing that gets my back up is people on the wind and trying to word their responses with the above posts . Right mr head made of xunt if you would like to read the original post you replyed to and read it again as to not be confused with any other post you thought it your duty to reply to you will see "as youve quoted it" the poster did not say they could not afford it they said they would either go on a budget or save a bit harder. Then followed up your response to that stating New York was the only place for them for the forseable future.
These forums are full of questions saying where shall i go to tell them your thoughts. I have worded this carefully for you Thanks for you posts. BTW Paris and Rome are two of my favorite cities and possibly my two favorite capitols but .
A, Dont quote a post and then mis-quote it

Westin is great IMO a bit pricey but if you got a high room (we were on 44) the views are magical over ESB or the Huston keep an eye out for deals through itself or the others mentioned . Heavenly beds take some beating (although i never gave it much beating having our middle kid in the same room):rotfl::D did you try schulas steakhouse below.Great steaks & fish . Lift sorry elevator was the mutts too:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
