Depends, maybe the hotel room view of NY skyline, river boat view of the Empire State Building & Statue of Liberty etc.
But not following some tour guide round a city listening to historic facts about biuldings.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and not sure if this is the correct place to post. I am looking to take a holiday with my family ( 3 adults and 2 children) to New York after a pleasurable holiday to Orlando last year, (Our first ever trip to the USA!)
We are looking to go for around about 10 - 14 days ideally in late August and so far the cheapest price I have found for flights is £2500, Orlando last year was £1700, and hotels are around about £2500 mark. Orlando was only £1200. I think New York is slightly more expensive anyway, but there appears to be a general trend of rising prices in comparison to last year.
I was just wondering if anybody who has been to New York could recommend any sites or travel agents, or provide any useful tips on how to cut the price of our holiday. This may be ambitious, but I was hoping to get the holiday all in with care hire at around £4500. At the moment everything seems quite daunting with a lot of research involved! Last year Hotel and theme park tickets was done through Disney which made life a lot easier.
Any help would be much appreciated.
We flew through Newark yesterday - it was 99 degrees. I couldn't cope with that for a week! Be prepared for very hot, very uncomfortable, humid weather.
Check out the various flight websites - kayak, etc. Also check out the hotel websites and check tripadvisor to make sure you're not going to book in a dodgy area or too far out (I don't recommend staying in Queens, etc. although other people don't seem to mind travelling in to NYC every day).“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

I would check Amazon for a decent guidebook - The DK Eyewitness ones are good. You don't need a tour guide, you can explore by yourselves, its easy to figure out as its all on a grid pattern. There's so much to see and if you watch American television or films, it can feel very familiar, even to the 1st timer!
(I appreciate that you're trying to do this as a surprise, but it might be worth telling her beforehand so she can plan with you, as thats as much part of the fun as the holiday).“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Hi guys, me and OH are planning on doing 4 nights in NY followed by 5 in Miami. In feb/mar next year. Have so far got all the flights
man - nyc - mia - man for £482 pp
Looking at Ramada New yorker on alpha rooms for £220 each and Crest hotel in Miami for £261 each.
Total ££963pp
I know a few of you have recommended the New Yorker hotel on here, is that the Ramada New Yorker?
Plus the Crest hotel has mixed reviews on tripadvisor so I'm wondering if I stayed at the Ramada in Miami if I could get some sort of discount? Worth a try heh?
any advice is appreciated.0 -

The boys drove me nuts with their refusal to think about the holiday in advance. We had a 'spare' day and night in our itinerary, and late on they thought they'd like to go to Niagara Falls. Well, if they'd said that early enough it could probably have been arranged, but NOT at that stage, as it was in the opposite direction to where we were going after NYC, and just too far to fit in.
Once we were there, and still with a night with no hotel booked, they decided they'd like another day in NYC. Fortunately the Cosmo had the space and booked us in at the original rate ... But if they'd taken the trouble to look at any of the guide books I'd got, they might have worked out they needed an extra day! Grrr, boys, who'd have 'em!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

If I did tell her she'd probably talk me out of it, she's so unselfish and thoughtfull she would just say it's a waste of money lets spend it on the house instead and get a take-away & dvd.
She really is a hard person to treat.0 -

Mike I think you should just book the NYC holiday for your wife, I'm sure she would really appreciate the surprise.0

I tell you, I'd be seriously UNimpressed if someone booked me a surprise trip ANYwhere. I like to KNOW where I'm going, what I'm doing, and prepare for it. And I'd certainly want to know what it was costing and whether we could afford it.
However, Mike knows his wife better than either of us. He should know whether she's the kind of person who likes that kind of surprise, or not.
We're all different, that doesn't make you wrong, or me right. And I hope Mike makes the right decision ... :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0
