I have only ever got the taxi, and whilst it is alot of money I just find it less stressful after coming off a long flight. I also worry about steps/luggage between stations on the subway, I am sure someone on here recently mentioned they struggled.0

PS,flight lands around 8pm.Monday
The subway is easy, no problems at all. I am not a great one for walking or carrying luggage, plus I travel alone, but have got the subway from the airport twice with no problems. Penn Station is an accessible station, so there are lifts available.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I have got it once when going on a day trip to Washington and found it very easy however dout I would do it with luggage and after a longhaul flight especially if it was the evening.
If you havent been to NY before or dont know where your hotel is I would have a good look at map before hand. When you come out of Penn station just look up for the new yorker sign and look for the tick tock diner which is right on the corner and its just down that block.
You could always just wait and see how you feel after the flight as it will be 8pm then may take a while at immigration & baggage so you will prob be very tired at that point and might change your mind anyway.
It is fantastic in a taxis when your coming into the city too, when I first went it was a real moment for me as always wanted to go so It will always be a great memory first seeing the skylineNew York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -

Get the subway its much cheaper and V simple. I always stay at the new yorker and depending on which set on stairs to come up you are right next to the New Yorker hotel. From JFK you have to catch the Air Train to Howard Beach Subway Stop. The Air Train is like a monorail that gets you betwen each of the different terminals. Then from Howard beach get the 'A' Train to 34th Street. If you get on the express train it takes about 45 mins, about 1 hour if you get on the local. Much quicker than catching a taxi. It ll cost you $7 dollars each - $5 dollars for the Air Train and $2 for the Subway. However when you get to Howard Beach buy a 7 day pass for $27 rather than just a single fare. It works out cheaper if your planning to use the subways a lot on your trip. Its very easy and at Howard Beach there is a newsagent that sells Air Train tickets and the Metro cards if you can't work out the self serve machine - plenty of people around to point you in the right dirction. The only difficult part is carrying your case up the stairs, but there is a disabled lift around somewhere, that will bring you up to street level if you think you will struggle.0 -

Its super close to Penn Station according to google maps - http://!!!!!!!.com/2ucajjw
If you click on the 'A' that signifies the hotel, then you can 'search nearby' for restaurants etc, or go to street view to have a better look at the street its on.
Edit - sorry doesn't like my tiny URL link, but google New Yorker hotel, and click on the maps option and you can see just how close it is to the station0 -

If you plan to use the subway, have your instructions written down on which trains to take and also look at google maps to see how you get to the hotel from PennLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
OMG!!! I have such a headache! I cannot decide on a hotel. We are going for 7 nights at the beginning of Sept. Never been before. I have a few hotels on my short list, the Beacon, Cosmo and the Libary (thanks to Tripadvisor) I havent even checked if they are available yet but Im so lost. I think I will just email all three tomorrow directly to see what they offer. Im expecting to spend between £800 - £1000 for this accom.
Are there any others I should consider? Im just after something thats easy to get about as we are there to be proper tourists and with our own bathroom.
I have checked the list at the beginning of this thread but there isnt much recent info on there. Any recommendations for a stressed traveller!?? Thanks in advance all. x0 -
