Most hotels will ask for this but you wont have to hand in the card and leave it with them they will just take the details and they wont take any money out of it unless costs are incured minibar etc. As Fairfx card is a mastercard you will be able use it I have a Fairfx card and even though prepaid I havent had any problems using it for this as its a mastercard.

We stayed at the Hilton and was asked for our cc as they "allowed up to $100 per day for spending on the hotel facilites" I said no thanks but put $10 on for the odd phone call home, made 3 in total of just over 5 mins each. On our departure was asked for an extra $70 dollars for the phone calls:eek: wont make that mistake again especially as you can text anyway.

No seats at all and, as two planes landed together and some people had connecting flights, they got priority which meant a lovely 1 hour 30 minute wait! Finally got through immigration and just two lonely bags waiting to be picked up - they had taken them off the bag claim carosoul we had been so long!! Sure this doesnt happen all the time but the looks of the other posts on this issue

    Costingbunny,

Saw this happening loads, and that was purely Delta terminal, within a few minutes baggage people pop out of middle of carosel and literally thrown bags onto the floor as they ned it for the next flight. Think we were lucky it was only our flight and there was no queue but after a while the place was mobbed!

Hi, just contacted Delta to see if there would be personal tv screens on MAN - JFK next year and they said they would only be installed in every 3rd seat so we have to share it! Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks

The party we were with were on 3 different flights going out, with Delta, and 2 different flights on the return and all had own TV but as I said that was from Glasgow. I'd look at your booking it will tell you which plane type and from there look at Delta website there is a webpage detailing layout of planes and I think it tells you aboutt he on board 'facilities' too.

We go on Monday for a whole week, staying at The New Yorker....realy realy excited now, cant believe its so close...Thanks for all the info supplied already guys, very useful and interesting.
I have a question about securing our bags, from what ive read elsewhere it seems almost commonplace that U.S customs will open and search suitcases...does this happen as often as ive been led to believe?,and is it realy worth paying extra for USA type padlocks, cos it seems they may just cut through these too..im thinking of just buying some poundland ones(with spares for the journey home,in case they get chopped off on the journey there!)
Oh and has anyone been to that great iconic establishment known as McDonalds in New York?,;)are the menus/prices just similar to here in the UK??
Thanks guys...no doubt il be back later with more questions:o
Oh...I have another question already..we have booked and paid a package through Firstchoice...will we still have to present a credit card at reception on check in??,we were hoping not to have to take a credit card with us.

None of our bages were opened at JFK or Newark (well not that we know of). And we were so long in JFK waiting that we were probably ideal candidates. But I think if you can get those locks then it's a safer bet.

I have seen this question on either here or Tripadvisor before and in their case, it was taken from the fairfx card, so basically the funds werent available for them to spend while on holiday (if thats makes sense?)
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

i went in june 07 to sheraton towers through virgin and had to produce cc for incidentals, also same at other hotels stateside when booked through virgin with exception of quality inn orlando.

leave the maccy d's alone, there are a lot better places to get some grub cheaper when in NYC.

Thanks for that johnnyroper, I presume there wouldnt be a problem if you said no.

Hmmm I think that would depend on the hotel. Some withdraw money and refund it after your stay and some only take out if any costs. In the 3 NY hotels I have sayed in have never had any money been taken out/refunded just my card details kept on file incase of costs during stay.

I think if I were you for your piece of mind I would email hotel and ask if Fairfx mastercard will be ok and make sure they will only take money out if costs are incured so you dont have any probs spending your $$$

Yes would defo get TSA locks they have a key for it which fits them all so no need to cut open lock with the TSA ones.
I found the Mc Donalds pricing and portions the same only difference I noticed was the larger size options.
We went to a Mc Donalds near World Trade Centre and it had a lady planing the piano :rotfl: I thought it was a CD couldnt believe it a Piano in Mc Donalds.

OH,thinks we should get a train from JFK to the New Yorker(rather than pay $60+ for a taxi)..I think we should get a taxi,(unless the train/subway is realy simple.)..ive read somewhere it may even be quicker than a taxi due to traffic....any thoughts/advice?...apparantly New Yorker is very very close to Penn station.
    PS,flight lands around 8pm.Monday
