If he's wolfing down a lot of food after not eating for a while this may explain the distended stomach. I hope he's ok when you get him to the vet.
I'd like to think that if one of mine went missing (as Missy has done previously) that someone would look after them as well as you are but the sad truth is they may have stopped looking in which case you've got yourself a new furbaby!

Please feel free to post up a pic of Mr Gizmo at your earliest convenience. Thanks!

Oops, sorry it's Mister GONZO. I reckon your stray or wandering puss is cramming every available morsel in as he's been without a regular source of food for some time. Ex-strays can become rather food-obsessed once re-homed.

I'm so pleased you taken him to the vet, I bet it's a weight off your mind and I hope Mister Gonzo is grateful for your ministrations and the comfort of a warm spot in your home. Bless you!

Hi all, so Dr Gonzo (or Blackie, couldn't bring myself to tell them his REAL name! lol) has been for a trip to the vet, and we now know:
    - He's not microchipped :(
    - He's an entire male
    - He's about 1yrs old (awwww)
    - He weighs about 4.2kg, so not really underweight, although he does look like a stocky breed.
    - He was tested for FIV and thankfully that came back negative
    - And he did some nice well formed poos in his box so not constipated or worm ridden, although he probably will need treating in due course, not going to medicate yet though.
    - We'll not feed him so much tonight either, he'll look like a balloon if he doesn't stop eating lol.

And that's about it! When we got back, he seemed keen to go out, so he's outside for the day now so we'll see what happens later. Hopefully he'll go home with his collar on and someone will ring...! And if they do I'll give em a right telling off for letting an entire tom wonder round unchipped in that state! ...kidding ;)

Actually the vet did warn us that we might get an angry phone call from the owner... I have to say that if mine wondered off, I'd be nothing but thankful that someone cared enough to put a note on him... still there's no explaining some people :)

Now we know he's not chipped we'll start going out with posters later, and I'll put some messages on the lost + found websites. We kind of want to keep his details secret, because we want to make sure that anyone who does claim him is genuine, but there's a couple I can put on here without giving too much away ;)

I'm glad we kept him in last night though, the bowl of water we left out for him was an ice cube this morning... he would have been a catsicle by now :(

    He's not preggers, hurray!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Whoever's cat he is deserves a good foot up the butt for letting an entire male cat wander.

However I do suspect that your cat with two names has already found his forever home. Well done Dr Gonzo/Blackie, you are very clever.

Your entire males often get lost as they can travel miles chasing a bit of skirt! Glad there is no FIV, your local branch of CP may send you a voucher for him snipping if you ask?

Oooops that was supposed to read "young entire males ..." and I stand by that statement! :p Is it the snipping you object to?!

    ROFL sooo true ;)

A voucher would be useful, today was rather pricey... i feel bad asking a charity to help foot the bill, but I guess it could have been more expensive for them. Isn't there an organisation that helps neuter cats for a nominal fee?

    From Cat Chat:

"Help! It's too expensive! - Need Help with Neutering Costs..?
For many people, neutering their pets is simply too expensive, but DON'T PANIC - help is at hand! If you are receiving benefit, are a pensioner, or are on a low income you can get low-cost, and sometimes even no-cost, neutering as follows:

    CATS PROTECTION Neutering Vouchers:
CP Vouchers cover roughly half the cost of the average neutering / spaying charge. You can apply directly to any Cats Protection branch or shelter, who keep a supply of vouchers, or phone their national Helpline on 03000 12 12 12. You may be asked to fill in an application form and provide a copy of the cover of your benefit book to obtain the voucher. You will need to take the voucher to the vet when getting your cat neutered, and all you pay is the remaining balance. Details of your local Cat Protection branch can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below.

    RSPCA Neutering Vouchers:
Low-cost neutering vouchers are available from most RSPCA branches. Contact your nearest branch, or if you don't have a branch near you, call their national helpline on: 0300 1234 555. Details of your local RSPCA can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below.

    INDEPENDENT RESCUES Low Cost Neutering:
Many independent rescue groups will help with neutering costs, or have arrangements with local vets for low cost neutering. Don't be afraid to ask, they all have the animal's welfare at heart. Details of your local independent rescue can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below."

Thanks chica, looks like it won't apply to us then because we're not on any benefits, but still worth asking.
