Well am back home now, no sign of him yet, although the OH let him in for a while earlier... but I think we know why he is suddenly homeless... he did a little wee on the wall, and sadly it was a red wee :( looks like he might have some kidney issues. Unless it was one of ours!

I have a feeling we won't be finding his owner, he was probably dumped. So we'll wait to see if he returns and put the collar on him, and think about getting him to a vet I guess... I suppose it's possible he's already on medication, but by the colour of my wall I would say probably not..

I've got some leaflets to put through doors, not including actual details of the cat, and will get the voicemail sorted ... probably wasn't a good idea putting the home number on there... might rethink that :)
  • Good on you for looking out for him, sounds like you have all bases covered. Hope he is either lost and can be reunited with his owner or if not that he finds himself a home witha lovely caring lady who he has started visiting ;) You say he is quite young so the red wee is more likely to be cystitis than kidney issues, it can be very painful for them so the sooner you can get him to the vets the better.

Can you tell if he's neutered? Un-neutered males are much more likely to spray and even if he has been done it could be that once inside he smells your resident cats so is trying to mark his territory.

Have you checked http://www.nationalpetregister.org/ to see if he is listed as missing?
  • Hi all, we had another visit tonight from our little friend, he came in and scoffed a whole sachet of whiskers and a bowl of bix, this is one hungry, hungry cat! Tbh, he does feel a tad boney, and has lots of big knots under his arms and legs, must be uncomfortable but he wouldn't let us groom him, I think that will be a job for the vet..

So we were able to put the collar on him with a note, and have sent him on his way again, so we'll see if we hear back from anyone. It does look like he used to wear a collar actually.. looking more and more like abandonment to me.

I wonder when we should bite the bullet and call CP?

If this cat is unwell I'd ring Cats Protection and the RSPCA right away, he needs veterinary attention. Might be kidneys, might be a urine infection ... maybe only give him wet food in the mean time as dry can aggravate kidneys or bladder problems. Is he drinking anything?

Funny how cats have a knack of finding a caring person! :)

Yup. Think that certain people have the word MUG written in big letters on their foreheads. Visible only to small children and/or animals.

That's the view from my legs tonight...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yep! He spotted us a mile off ;) He's got a bowl of fresh water outside and some food, but I agree, he needs vetinary treatment ...poor little sausage must be in terrible discomfort. We'll probably keep him in tomorrow night, and take him the next morning, whether anyone rings or not.
Cat's Protection don't seem to be able to do much more, so we'll just have to keep doing what we're doing for now:

I'll let you know if there's any more news, thanks for all your suggestions so far! :)

If he is already bleeding in his urine he really needs attention sooner rather than later, I have had cystitis that bad myself before. :( I was assuming you couldn't afford to or didn't wish to pay for vet care, suggesting CP/ RSPCA might help out financially even if they are unable to actually take him into foster. You may in that case need to go to one of their 'tame' vets. If he has been a stray he may need worming, flea treatment, ear mites as well as the kidney/ bladder issue, hope it's not too costly.

My vet will check for free, unlike the one up the road, formely featured regularly on Animal Hospital who charge you to set foot in the door.

Please avoid the RSPCA, they will collect the cat from the vet and sell it on. They will not bother to collect it from a house even when its life is in danger (unless it is a pedegree cat which they can sell on) For example, a stray came here, was eating all the food it could find, it was pregnant. Neighbour rang RSPCA and they didn't want to know as 'it sounds well fed', well yes because it was eating every other cats food, but it was thin, loosing its fur and about to give birth in a garden (she would not come in) She had 6 kitten in a box. After 2 weeks she moved them one night into the neighbours utility room through the cat flap. The neighbour didn't know this and went in in the morning, cat was spooked, ran straight out into the road and was killed. Rang RSPCA 'kittens to young to help', eventually only one survived. Thanks RSPCA.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me
  • Oh, poor little mite. I'd take him in and get him off to the vets in a trice

Ah, this sounds like my dear sweet Henry, now deceased. He came to me as a bony stray with a bad case of the runs, scoffing everything in sight. So I took him to the vet, got him scanned (no chip), made him sleep outside for oooo three nights perhaps....next thing you know he's sleeping on my bed and helping himself to the contents of the fridge.

Have you thought of a name yet?
