Well, you'll all be pleased to know that Dr Gonzo is at the vet today to have his bits off and he'll be microchipped and groomed as well. :T:T:T

So I guess after a month of untold drama and no news from any owners, we can offically say that Dr Gonzo has a home with us.. if he stops scrapping with Pumpkin and peeing in the bath that is!! ;) x

<Crosses legs & confirms bits are still there!>

Glad he's working out for you.

  • Groomed! Blimey aren't your cats posh!
But I am really glad that Dr Gonzo has found such a lovely new home. You have been very generous to take him on with all the grief of losing your little Guiness.
If he is peeing in the bath maybe you could train him to use the loo.....now that's REALLY posh!
  • well, by 'groomed' i mean shaved ;);) he won't let us near his tangles awake!

My Kitty is also a stray who adopted us as owners, she would appear in the back garden often, and speaking to the neighbours they knew of a guy who would leave his shed open for her, and she would sneak into our bathroom if we had left the window open. Also she would go into said neighbours house (cat flap) and steal food from their cats.

She doesn't do that any more though, as she is so far up herself she will (almost) only eat chicken IAMS and I can only assume their food is no longer good enough for her :rotfl:

you should be able to groom him to stop the tangles re-occuring.

Well done for taking him on & taking such good care of him.:T
  • Sorry to keep resurrecting this one :o but...

Gonzo is driving us slightly nuts :( It's been a couple of days since he was 'done', obviously too soon to see any change in behaviour, but as we're keeping him indoors for a while, he's going absolutely crazy meowing at the door, and then meowing for more food, and meowing at the door again... despite being a young cat, he has zero interest in playing so trying to distract him doesn't work. and ignoring him or giving him a fuss isn't working either.

More importantly though, Pumpkin *really* isn't liking him lately, I think the meowing is getting to him too and the scrapping is getting more serious. He's always following Gonzo around the house, sometimes pounces on him, there's fur all over the place...so obviously Gonzo is getting more stressed and desperate to get out as a result.... I suspect that if we give in and let him out he'll return to his straying ways, and not be keen on coming back. He really needs more time to figure out where home is and socialise with Pumpkin, but it's not exactly going to plan!

Can anyone offer some advice on what might help at this stage? We've got Feliway plugged in, plenty of food bowls, but in our little place we're really beginning to struggle for ideas.. Maybe Gonzo would be better off as an only cat with an owner who has the time to correct his learned behaviours.. I think we're getting to the point where its not fair for either of them to live this way. :(

Clicker training for both? Different type of playing and can be used to correct unwanted behaviours. Do either like raw meat? Half a skinless chicken wing might keep them occupied for twenty minutes if they are driving you to distraction. Could try hiding dry food in random places or a Slimcat feeder ball or a mix of wet and dry in a puppy kong? Have you read the entertaining indoor cats advice on Purrsinouthearts?

I've just read your post from start to finish and I was shocked to read about poor Guiness and I cried. :( I'm so sorry for your loss.

Don't give up with the socialisation of Dr Gonzo and Pumpkin. Dr Gonzo isn't used to being shut in as he was once a roaming/stray/lost cat plus he has just had an operation so he's bound to be feeling a bit stressed. I'm sure the cats will be fine together in the end, it's just going to take a bit of time.

I'm so glad that Dr Gonzo found you as you sound like such a lovely caring person.

I am sure that Gonz will settle down once his hormones have settled as well especially as he has only just been done.

I dont envy you having to deal with a 'just' neuterd toms urine...its a bit wiffy !!

My cat was a straying just 7 weeks ago, he is now a pampered indoor cat and has adapted extreamly well. It just needs a little bit of time i think.

I dont have any suggestions re intergrating them both but wish you luck :)
