Help! Sad kitty at my door :(

  • I''ve only just read this thread from start to finish and have to say its made me cry. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Guinness. We lost our cat Sparkle last summer just outside our house and its a horrible thing to go through. It sounds as if you are doing a fantastic job with Gonzo though. A month or so after we lost Sparkle I felt that we should get another cat to keep our tabby Susie company. I made contact with a lady who runs an independent rescue and we ended up with Angel a little black and white kitten with unusual markings who had been abandoned in a cardboard box. I've got to say that she is the best thing that could possibly have come out of our loss of Sparkle. She is the most loving and affectionate cat I've ever had and while she can never replace Sparkle she has helped to fill what was a very large cat shaped hole in our lives. We love her to bits and wouldn't be without her for a second.
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!
  • I'm sorry to read about your cat Guinness too :(

Our 2 are curted up asleep on cushions next to the radiator as I type.

I cant bear to think of poor kitty's with no home at this time of year :(

    xx

My mum is visited by a lovely white cat who has a rather large curly tail, and is soo soo beautiful! My mum also had an all black cat up until a year ago when she died. I love all black cats, they're so silky, shiny and regal looking.

White cats also have a problem with sunburn and are more prone to skin cancers. As the fur on their ears and nose are white they have a pink nose and white skin which can get sunburnt easily. You can put suncream on them to help stop sunburn but ive heard of a few white cats who have had to have the tips of their ears removed as they were becoming cancerous.

Having said all that id still love an all white cat!! They just need a teeny bit more care, and i already put suncream on Honey's pink nose in the summer! (overprotective mother alert!)
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • Gonzo definitely needs to be neutered asap!!

He's been out wandering since Monday morning, no sign of him at all last night, and tonight he's had some food and is pacing the door meowing to go out , sits down, paces again, goes for a quick nap, pacing the door again......

It kind of feels like we're being cruel keeping him in... but I'd rather not let him wander in the dark, being a black cat and having lost one already. Anyone else experienced this with a new cat? He's had plenty of food, tray is available, but he's still going mad to be let out.. I suspect he'd like to go chasing girl cats lol
  • It's either a taste for the ladies or he needs to get out there and patrol his territory to deter usurpers. They are creatures of habit so he might change his ideas once he realises he has a welcoming, permanent home.
  • I think February is prime mating season...so kittens are born come spring. He is probably raring to go.......

Cats are strange little things, they're not loyal to owners and if they are uncomfortable in their home they will simply look for another one, so if the cat did have a home he certainly doesn't want to live there!
Ive had this happen to me, a cat turned up for a few months and then he was gone. also one of my cats often cries at the window a few houses up, its like he has sleep overs and then comes home for a bite!!!
i think you've done all you can to find the owner, not many would do that, your obviously very nice!

    February is prime mating season...

eek!!! Maybe it would be wise for us to keep him in until he's had his op...

edit: he's quietened down a bit now, I think as he's he so young he's probably not been fully trained so he meows for everything.. Maybe we'll just need to ignore him when he's making a racket and only give rewards for nice quiet behaviour! ;)

He may well have an owner but MILES away.....

when I got Chi I didn't plan to have him `done' & the vet persuaded me by saying most of dead cats found were entire toms, that they wandered miles looking for females to mate with - obviously if there are other uneutered toms to defend territory they wander farther & farther afield and apparently that's how some males end up as strays - it's their hormones raging - not disloyalty.

One of my cats is mostly white with a few tabby coloured splodges throughout his body and head, and you know his white shedding didnt even occur to me when I chose him, I picked him because he was so unusual coloured and I fancied a bit of colour in my life :rotfl:

I realise now that people may avoid white cats because of the hair, as it does show up verrrrry badly, doesn't bother me in the slightest, as he prefers to sleep on OH's clothes :rotfl:
