    Qualified Technie - No

All I gained was my GCSEs. I'm working towards getting my accreditations in CCNA, MCSE etc simply because it's the industry standard and more recognised qualifications which gives people more reason to "Trust" your knowledge plus it will help me developing my business and knowledge.

I don't personally believe people should just rely on opinions of those who are accredited by Microsoft, as people have mentioned some merely memorised the answers. Where I worked our certified "Microsoft" trainer had a high pass rate because he got people to memorise the answer for the exam, true they passed, but when put into practical use they were useless.

My IT history. Left school did 2 years in an IT / Office environment. Moved onto IT Support Helpdesk with EDS (now owned by HP going down the pan haha) and then moved onto a local University where I helped roll out projects and carried out Desktop Support

I may be relatively dumb by some standards, yet my work based experience means I have encountered a lot of scenarious where others may have text book answers but no practical experience and wouldn't know what to do. It also means I am very adaptive and can approach a problem in a logical way.

When I worked on the helpdesk I was regarded as the person to go to for all the answers, nobody had an issue coming to me and I always explained it in a way which allowed them to understand without fear of being ridiculed.

Customer satisfaction is what I aim for, I'm not interested in bragging rights. I will however admit I have been turned down for a few jobs because I'm seen as "stupid" by them since I don't have any qualifications....their loss far as I'm concerned.

I'm 26 years old, have 10 years practical experience within an IT environment. I have a network of friends / family and colleagues who approach me for anything IT related, so I'd like to think I'm doing good somewhere

In my opinion those should not be excluded because they are not shown as qualified, on the other hand those who are qualified should also be able to find the resolution quickly and efficiently

As it has been mentioned, this is a forum. The usual disclaimer stuff applies that the opinions of the individuals are in no way to be taken as qualified advice type thing etc etc. It's simply a forum where people are willing to share knowledge for free, plus when you rely solely on a qualified person as someone stated you run into legality of if something gets broken

Additionally, if you use forums you can actually gain more experience and knowledge as there is usually always someone who has dealt with the problem before. Your pool of knowledge is then increased

    There's my story :)

Lol, sounds about right. It's funny when University students do that with their dissertations etc. As if the lecturers haven't got programs which check for Plagerism (or however it's spelt).

What do you think is the deciding factor, the wage packet or the nicety of the lecturer ? :D

Probably trying to make some money out of it :)

I won't disagree when I start mine, I'll be active on forums as that's where most people need help. I plan on doing the normal method of just putting my the site in my siggy so people can click it if they are interested. I'm still going to offer free advice whenever I surf forums. That will never change

Anyhoo. That was my techie experience above anyway. I'll stop waffling :)
