How about a Genuine Techy List

Options
Hello All, I as you will know am very new here. That said, it doesnt mean I don't know my job. Over the last couple of days I have read the posts of several people needing assistance in one way or another. I have seen several helpful suggestions too and unfortunately I have seen the odd disaster as a result of either inadequate or incorrect advice.

As with most trades there are an eliment of people that offer sound and appropriate advice and those unfortunately who don't.

So, what would you think about a list of Qualified IT engineers that are required to provide relevant details of their respective qualifications and then those that need assistance could select from that list as to whom and how they receive help.

Would you take your car to a doctor for repair?

Interested to know your thoughts.

Op you cant have links in your signature whether click able or not

I dont think its a good idea to be honest, who defines who is qualified , difficult to prove and take valuable time

People give advice for free whether its right advice or not thats the risk you take this can equally apply to all boards

    Thanks for editing

You can take your computer to a repair shop for ££££

Or you can get advice from here, for free, which is 95% of the time correct.

I wouldn't take advice from someone who can't read the terms of the website before they signed up either (ie you).

    dead link removed...appologies.

On your points though...help would still be provided for free, why would that change. I watched help yesterday lose someones data because combofix advise was incorrectly given.

Hard to prove. Is not any proof better than none? Easy to scan MCSE for example.

At least the advise would limit some bad advice

Would those same people need to know how to use a spell checker?, fairly basic computer skill I would have thought.

    :)

Good point, bad advice can easily cost money/time

Sometimes its not always that simple to convey a problem or indeed correct a problem unless you have pc in front of you, although granted alot of problems are actually caused by software or for that matter viruses/malware

Humble appologies for the spelling mistake, I know you have never made one. Anything constructive to add?
