You cant possible say that.
The techie forum is for asking for help, sharing problem which people might have had in the past and can offer advice on how to fix it.
Forum: Techie Stuff....Forum: Qualified Techies
Define a "Qualified Techie" Someone who has qualified that can offer scanned copies of their qualification. A name a number that I suspect in most cases could be verified.
Same as DIY Mechanic....Qualified Mechanic
I know which one I would ask for help with my car.
I still dont see what changes other than the quality of answer.Computers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -

It would be neigh impossible to vet. People ask for advice, people give advice freely and free, its up to the person asking for the advice whether to take it or not, the same applies to all over parts of mse and not just hardware
Tell that to the guy that has just lost his data. And no, I am not trying to change anything. I just asked a question.Computers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -
what about data protection? who sees the qualifications? who Polices it?
You can equally be adapt at fixing computers if you do it for a hobby than some teenager still wet behind there ears with a new qualification but no experince0 -
Lol it's is neither here nor there if your qualified, If someone knows the problems to someone elses problems then share it you dont need to have certificates to say so.0

That's unfortunate if people want professional advice then they can pay. I know a company in my town and several of its employees who I know and been in game for years haven't got one qualification yet no more about pc's than perhaps some that doTell that to the guy that has just lost his data. And no, I am not trying to change anything. I just asked a question.0

Thats exactly how the data was lost. That thread is still ongoing and at the moment the poor guy is desperately trying to slavage his data.Computers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -

It would just mean the threads would have a variant of answers from those that have been taught and little interuption from those that are in fact guessingComputers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -
I understand the idea behind this suggestion - but I have two issues. One, as others have raised, is that it would be very difficult for the forum to effectively verify and confer 'Techie' status. There are other forums out there that do similar things, and are in a better position to do so.
The other is that anyone who posts on the internet must learn to exercise their discretion. I would never stake my health on advice on a semi-anonymous board, and nor would I trust the fate of valuable data to figures who may not even exist. The posts here are to be taken as recommendations, on a par with advice you might hear at the bus stop. Practically speaking, that's about as far as you can trust anything I, you, or a 'Techie' on here can post. Welcome to the Internet.0 -
I think altahost thinks hes some big shot and just wants to show off what he can offer. So come on what can you offer to MSE that others cant.0

I think most of the advice is posted in good faith, and whilst a small minority of posts may be wrong advice, if data was so important than perhaps the person with the problem should seek professional advice
You may well get advice from debt councillors or solicitors on here but if there expert enough they always said seek advice locally
I think the over consensus on here is its a bad idea and I wager Martin would think same too due to obviously reason such as data protection. ligation etc etc
Most people with any common sense would realise advice given is just that posted in good faith0
