Ellie 14 - Its all in the will power and wanting to reach a goal!
Do you have an avent to aim for? For example I am aiming to be lighter for my spring holiday-off to Lanzarote for 2 weeks.
Just eat healthy food and stay away from the pale food, butter, sugar, etc...
Best Wishes...If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Ellie, may I suggest that you concentrate on eating healthily at first. Identify what your favourite foods are then find low fat ways of cooking and presenting them.
I am a SW consultant so naturally I'm biased towards them (I genuinely think it's the best eating plan around) but if you haven't got a large appetite it may not suit you.
Check out everything you want to buy (foods that is), look at the nutritional panel, and only buy if it contains less than 4% fat. This is not a SW guideline, but a very good rule of thumb if you want to lose weight and stay healthy.
Drinks lots and lots of water and keep up with some form of exercise (walking is brill and free to do).
If you should find it hard to motivate yourself, then a group setting is a good idea.
You may like to check out the 'losing weight' recipe site on here and have a go at some of them. Good luck!
Rachel Yay, how exciting getting into a size smaller than you expected :T - it's all that walking the dog that does it
Honey You must be in the only sunny spot in Britain today - it's cold, wet and windy here, more like November than August. Good luck with weigh-in, and congrats on resisting the 2nd and 3rd bag of Maltesers :A
Tallgirl Your ryebread and mackerel will be very good for you - enjoy it. Sorry you were rained off from your golf, hope the weather picks up for all of us next weekend (well all except Honey!!!)I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hi Ellie,
I am doing Rosemary Conley and I am really enjoying it.
As far as I know it's the only class that includes exercise which is pretty important (although I expect to get flamed if I'm wrong that it's the only one :-)
I do a salsacise class which I really enjoy because it's more like dancing than exercise. It goes really quickly as I enjoy it.
Our instructor is really good and she keeps us motivated with emails and recipes etc.
The diet is quite flexible. There are no forbidden foods and you can drink alchohol.
I have lost 30 lbs on it so far and many ladies in my area have been succesful with it although it's obviously down to your own will power and not just the class.
My siste-in-law has lost loads at Slimming world.
They didn't have any suitable times in my area though but I've heard lots of good things about them.
I would recommend a class. It has kept me motivated and I have heard that you are 3 times more likely to succeed that way.
I also bought an Orbitrek machine (on ebay for £60).
It works for me because I use it whilst watching EastEnders.
I like the fact that I don't have to get changed and travel to a gym, it's free and I can watch the TV.
I can also exercise without a top in the privacy of my bedroom (I'm not a weirdo but it's nice to be cool).
My advice would be to find foods that you like and find some form of exercise that you like whether it's walking, cycling or dancing etc.
If you find things you like then you are much more likely to stick to it and be successful. You won't last many weeks if you try to do something you hate.
Good Luck0 -
So much for 4 hours golf walking in the fresh air. I was p**** down when I got there and some of the girls didn't want to go out either so we just had a chat. I hate playing in the rain and there was a mens match out ahead of us so it would have been a lot of waiting in the wet which was my main excuse for pulling out.
Tallgirl - Now I understand - you're a fair weather golfer...:D My dad and 2 of my brothers have gone to Co. Killarney this week for golfing holiday. They'll be playing 36 holes every day till next Saturday. They've all taken at least 3 waterproof suits and hats to wear - one to wear, one to dry and one waiting for the next game.... personally, I think they're nuts:rotfl:
Welcome Ellie14. Just to add my penny'sworth.... it's a great move that you've posted on here. It shows you're ready to make a change. My advices is similar to Consultant31... buy healthy food but also keep a food diary of every BITE that goes into your mouth - you'll be surprised at how much you find yourself eating!I can also exercise without a top in the privacy of my bedroom (I'm not a weirdo but it's nice to be cool).
Lisyloo:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: my OH has just read your post and has started to beg me to exercise with my top off:j .... he just doesn't understand that I'll end up with 2 black eyes if I do:cool:
Rachel - well done on getting into the smaller size. As for going swimming, you already got drenched in the rain today - talk about a glutton for punishment! Welll done you!:TGoal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Hello everyone, great to read how everyone is getting on, rachelmk - very jealous about your size 12 dress, hope to get there in the end!
Was really good last week (ww no count) and losst 2lb, which i was chuffed with as have been losing half to a pound every week, but i confess it was all in training for a family celeration this weekend. We had thai food last night, a 'naughty' roast today with all the nice stuff like yorkshire pudding. oh lord and cheese cake my mum made.
I knew i was pretty much going to come off ww for the weekend so told myself not to bother feeling guilty, and i have enjoyed myself so hopefully the damage won#t be too bad next week.
So far lost 13.5lbs, i suspect i might stay the same (fingers crossed) or put a little on this week.
Pug senior (my dad) has now lost 30lbs in 8 weeks, his trousers are falling down so he's very pleased.
We'll get back on track tomorrow to try and make up for all the naughtiness!
Well done everyone, keep it up. :T
I found a recipe for slimmers world quiche by the way, don't know if anyone has made it on here but it was gorgeous, and because i am on no count it was all fee for me to eat. It's here in case anyone wants it0 -

S-T-R-E-T-C-H as long as I want.
I hope I aint too upset at weigh-in tomorrow.
Monkeylugs - lol I just hope you remember about stretching your flexible syns so much that when your knicker elastic needs to stretch.    I'm sitting here with my trousers undone I've eaten so much today!:rotfl:
Well done on staying with the plan so well though. SW is definitely one of the best plans I've followed. I agree that having flexible syns is a really good way of feeling positive about sticking to the plan and moving forward.
I'm sure it won't be too bad tomorrow, but let us know how you get on... Good luck!Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Not sure if it's been mentioned at some point during the thread(s) but the Paul Mckenna Lose weight book / cd is really good.
Have tried it and got great results. The CD needs to be listened to, and regularly in my case, to re inforce the point.
The book is very simple to read, understand and makes perfect sense. Basically, there are 4 or so rules, and the premise is that our eating cycle gets thrown out of sync for a reason, and needs resetting.
Can't recommend it enough. The book lets you eat what you want, when you want, you stay full throughout and lose weight !!0 -
Hi,
Consultant, Rachel, and Monkeylugs: Thank you for your congratulations on the thesis. I'm well chuffed about finishing it and about being able to cook proper healthy meals and exercise more.
Tall Girl: Being short myself, all of my OH's food that I should avoid goes up on the top shelves. There are days when I have to tell myself that I am not going to climb onto a chair to "steal" his food. It works because I hate climbing onto chairs to reach things in our kitchen. I know you have the opposite problem--I'd be very tempted if his food was in one of the lower cupboards.
Eels: I do the food diary thing but I haven't found a better way than just writing things down and then looking up the calorie value in one of my diet books. If you find an online diary, will you let me know?
Jenpoptab: I'm seriously impressed with how much you got done today.
Fox: The sweet chilli noodles, did you make them? If you so, would you share the recipe? They sound delish.
We had Sunday lunch at the soon to be in-laws and although we got there at 11:30 didn't eat until 4 pm. I was starved and had promised myself before that I was not going to partake in the crisps and dips his mother always puts out but I did. Lunch was a vegetable casserole with a shortcrust pastry lid and boiled sprouting broccoli. I also ate dessert: 2 small scoops of vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce. Feeling motivated to do better tomorrow. In fact, I know I will because I can plan what and when I will eat.
Take care. lisele0
