Wow, thanks everyone for your thoughts, it's great to hear from you all and to feel so welcome.
Right let me see....I'm following the on-line plan therefore no consultant to talk to, however you all know what you're doing and hopefully can help out if need be, so thanks in advance.
I will add:- I drink as much water as I can in the day - 1 or 2 litres.
- I usually stick to Green days but try and have at least one Original a week.
- I weigh myself first thing on a Tuesday morning (was so surprised at the 4lb gain that I changed the battery to make sure the scales weren't playing up!).
- I exercise a fair bit....walk for half an hour at least 3 lunchtimes, I run for 30-40 minutes for 3 or 4 mornings and have just taken up cycling to work which is a 16 mile round trip.
Thanks everyone, for your advice and the friendly nature of the board.Slimming World Started 06/06/07

Hi Honey,
Have never been sporty before I took up running - hated PE at school (which was a LONG time ago), so I don't know quite how this has happened ! And the cycling? I need to toughen up my bum after that ride, it's a little tender :embarasseSlimming World Started 06/06/07

Just wanted to say congratulations to suewre on the job, hope it works out.
I'm stuck, just as you were. But I think one of my problems is that I don't actually feel fat, or useless, or incompetent, or use my weight as an excuse for not doing things - I mean, there are plenty of things I don't do, but my weight's got nothing to do with why I don't do them!
The scales say I am obese. I did lose a stone and get down to overweight, just, before having to take steroids for a few weeks, and when that happened I put on half a stone, and I just can't seem to shift it!
so I suppose what I'm asking is, how do I shift from knowing I ought to lose weight, to actually WANTING to do it enough to be successful? I'd say my eating habits are pretty good, I'm pretty clued up on how to eat sensibly and aim for GI / G2 principles although I'm not on a plan, I haven't found a class I could get to regularly. And I don't want to obsess or bore everyone rigid about food! Except possibly you lot ... :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Goals should be stretching, so if we only aim to do what we know we can do anyway, where's the challenge? Why not promise yourself something special as a reward if you achieve it - or get OH to reward you in some way. It doesn't have to cost anything either, maybe he could look after the baby for a few hours to give you some 'me' time to pamper yourself or go out with your friends.
I'm giving you this advice and thinking to myself that I need to do something myself if I'm going to reach my target. We need to think about what we're going to do different to last month, and the usual things come to my mind - eat less, exercise more. !
LL
Thanks for the advice Lois, it was pretty much what was going through my head as I was typing my message to Jenpoptab which was why I changed my mind.
I agree, I need to do something differently. I start back full time next week and intend to use my lunchtime to make sure I get at least a 30 minute walk every day (on top of the walking about I normally do through my job). I'll see how that goes for a while. I think it'll work out that my weightloss might increase.
As for my reward, my yoga teacher is having a full day's yoga on 5th August and 19th August. It's costing £40 for each day so I'm not too sure if I can afford it. BUT I might ask OH if I can go to the first day as a treat if I lose my 8lbs in July.
Thanks for the support, you're brilliant:TGoal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

Savvy_Sue,
What you're waiting for is your lightbulb moment that gives you the motivation to lose weight and look at your lifestyle enough to want to change it. For example, I was over 17 stone on the day I got married, I did want to be thinner but not enough to do something about it.
3 years later, I was being refused infertility treatment until I got weight off, that was enough motivation for me. and I lost almost 4 stone. I wanted to lose weight enough to have a baby. It's one of the reasons why I'm not too hard on myself about carrying my baby weight (1.5 stone) even though DS is 8 months old. My motivation now is trying for another baby. I've got my motivation, My goal is to lose my baby weight plus at least 2 more stone. I've given myself until June of next year to try and acheive this because I don't want to be carrying as much weight with my next child as I did with Joel. It wouldn't be fair on either of them. Besides, my son is entitled to have a healthy mother with a healthy view on her eating habits and weight and I want to sort that out now before he's old enough to remember and pick up my negative thoughts on body image for himself.
If I can give you some advice, try Dr. Phil McGraw's book called "The Ultimate Weight Solution". I don't recommend the diet, it's very low in calories and whilst you might have a rapid weightloss, I don't think it's sustainable. But the book says that there are 6 other areas you need to address in order to be successful in losing weight. There's some good questionnaires etc. where you can work out your negative self image, internal dialogue (as in what you say to yourself when you look in the mirror etc.) and other stuff. Most of it is also on his website. (DrPhil.com) so try looking there for some ideas on motivating yourself (and maybe why you sabotage your attempts at losing weight) before you decide to buy the book. It definitely helped me sort out my thinking.

Marjorie - hope you're not feeling too disheartened. Does the online plan have a daily food diary to check syn contents etc? Also are you eating your healthy extras and a few syns everyday? Either way you sound ever so disciplined and I'm sure the gain was a weird blip so don't worry about it and keep it up!
Nearlyrich - 4lbs of greek food must have been very yummy and worth it!
Savvy Sue - If you're not motivated it's going to be too hard to stick to a diet. My motivation was reading about all the health risks associated with being obese (which i am). For some reason it really hit home this time round. My other new motivation is the fact that i'm moving abroad in about a year and would love to be down to my target by then. Whatever you do, do try to not put on any weight because it slowly adds up and can become a colossal task0 -
Delly - what a story you have behind your weight loss! well done for doing so well and hope DS learns to appreciate how hard you worked for him!
Me - Lost 1.5lbs this week despite the arrival of the breadmaker (one slice weighs 80g!). Total loss = 2 stone and 1lb since february!! Am pleased as low-fat punch.
Sort of want to speed the weight loss up (well don't we all) but the slow and steady way seems to be working so shan't complain!!
well done to everyone this week0 -
There's a Losing Weight While Saving Money Thread over on the OS board just in case you haven't seen it. Might of use to some or all of us?I haven't got one!0

OK, so normally very motivated, but for the last week up to Monday I was angelic, knocked my sins down to a max of 10 per day and exercised a lot (running 5km every other day)!
Got on the scales at an earlier class (5 days after instead of a week) and had maintained. I then got really down, went out the next evening on a works do and blew my syns for the year on booze which is very unlike me!! Last night I went to my class late (work commitments) but sat through the class bit and tried to get motivated, but all I got was more depressed! I have 4 1/2 lbs to go and it is just sticking there. I have started thinking maybe I am at my "natural" weight, even though i know I'm not! My brain has gone in to a bad place, CheekyMole & Honey28, big boot needed please!!
I go on holiday next Tuesday so am going to the Monday class again this week, and I had so wanted to have lost this next 1 1/2 lbs before I went........ I feel really down about this, and I know it's not the end of the world, but need something to inspire me again!
HELP!! :eek:Misguided maybe, but never really bad!! :A0
