Jenittels - I just had exactly the same experience but with the red lentil "soup"! Spent 40 mins making soup - thanks to everyone for fab advice it actually turned out quite nicely - and then 30 mins cleaning up the kitchen. I too am sadly lacking in the Anthea Turner approach to cooking.0

don't blend stuff - stick the potato masher in it a few times and enjoy the lumps. Just took delivery of the new New Covent Garden Recipe book and have started salivating already. Must . . resist . . . urge to put . . . CREAM in . . . everything . . . . . .dammit!
and v excited as just bought new car woo hoo!0 -
JenI it made me giggle imagining you with soup everywhere, lol. I have a lovely recipe for chickpea & apricot cake, but I rarely make it cos you get bits of chickpea in the farthest reaches of the kitchen - it's a pain!
KatiePC OOh, what sort of car is it??
Hope you'll be making some 'try-outs' for us from your new cook-book, but forego the cream and use quark or fromage frais - it's honestly almost as good.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Good evening you gorgeous bunch of vixens (and Suggs ...)
A question, if I may, and it's possibly one for consultant but open to all offers of advice. I am finding the weight is coming off inspite of my dietary indiscretions (pizza, lager, chips, maltesers ... ), and it's been much easier than I ever thought it would be to shift the wobblies. BUT I know they say it gets harder to lose the weight the nearer you are to your target. At what stage do you reckon this is likely to happen? I started at 15st 4lbs back at the start of August and last Monday I was 14st 3lbs. That's about half a stone a month. I'm not sure of a target but I'm thinking around 10st. I'm still doing minimum 20 minutes cardio every morning too. I want to mentally prepare myself for the going getting tough!
KPC do tell us about the car - I love cars! And a very happy birthday for tomorrow, Moira  :wave:0 -

You're doing so well, I'm sure you don't really need advice. ½ stone a month is the PERFECT rate of loss and I don't think you need worry about it changing much till you get down to the last stone.
Congratulations on your continued exercise regime, you're looking good :TI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
consultant is right eels, you're doing so well, don't rain on your own parade by anticipating it not working so well!
my new car is a citroen berlingo diesel 2litre. Thanks to my odd hobby(medieval re-enactment) I need something with a lot of space in the back. The Berlingo is hugely roomy, has pockets nad lockers everywhere, looks kinda cute and more importantly, has a wheeled trolley in the back. How cool is that?
and you're right consultant, FF is a good substitute - I'm working myway through starting next week SWifying the recipes. Once I've tested them I'll post them. Whats the best way to find myway to the losing weight recipes thread? I know people sometimes sometimes post links to it but it's frustrating if i can't find a link because then i can't find the thread.

KPC congratulation on the new car, my sister has one like that in Denmark and she loves it. She came over this summer and could not understand why there were not more of them in the UK. Enjoy.
Moiracm!! Happy Birthday, 21 again!!
JenI & Consultant I am quite a messy cook toowhich is why i tend to cook at the weekend and then freeze it for easy homemade meals during the week.
Was meant to play golf today but felt I ought to see the inlaws so they are coming down for late lunch this afternoon. Roast Beef and apply and blackberry crumble. I know it is bad for me but at least I cannot drink as i have ot be in Oxford tonight.
As you can hear I am not doing too well on the diet front this week only good thing is I have not been home enough to have time to have a drink. Also starting to want less to drink which is good news.

Calorie counting and advice about increasing exercise and reducing fat and carbohydrate intake to reduce obesity are ineffective, counter-productive and often damaging. - See the article in the British Medical Journal of November 2003 http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/327/7423/1085 for actual research on what happens when this advice is followed! - Over 800 obese adults were put on energy deficit diets, given diet sheets and plenty of instruction and help from trained staff, and apparently, visited fortnightly for a year, at the end of which they had GAINED weight! This mirrors the real experience of obese people, viz. - dieting makes you fat.
Most obese people who make a serious effort to reduce salt/sodium intake and give up the calorie reduction game lose about a stone in the first month.
I have made a serious effort to reduce my salt intake, so why am I still struggling to lose weight?
