    Hiya
I've had a pretty ropey fortnight and was to ill to attend last week's weigh in.
Nor have I gone to the gym and to be honest I haven't even really stuck to my diet.
    Just feel like s**t.
So, you can imagine my suprise when I stepped on the scales yesterday and was told I lost 2lbs
I know it's over two weeks but I really expected to pile the whole 3lb I had lost back on.
I went to a lecture on Wednesday and have just seen a pic of me sitting in the crowd- let's just say that pic is going on my fridge. The belly on me!!:rotfl:
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

Oakdale do you go to a SW group? If you do there should be a free booklet with loads of recipes and ideas on what's lower syn from around the world. I haven't got one with me at the mo, so I can't tell you any of the recipes, but I do remeber seeing one for making your own prawn sesame toast (yum!!).

I would definitely recommend you to make your own SW friendly meal, it's rather more special for the OH when he knows you've gone to all that trouble, and you'll be able to eat freely, knowing you're not sabotaging yourself. I do have a recipe for bhajis and raita if you want them.

I guessed it would be your third week, cos that's almost always when the inexplicable maintain or gain occurs - it's very odd but quite common!

I always make my own fried rice JenIttels, by boiling long-grain rice till cooked, spread it out onto a tray and allow to dry for several hours.
Whisk a couple of eggs and dry-fry until set, allow to cool, roll up and slice thinly - put aside.
Finely chop a mild onion (or a pack of spring onions) & put aside.
Gather some sweetcorn, frozen petit pois and sliced button mushrooms and leave to one side.
Right, now spray a wok well with Frylight and fry the onion (you could add a little garlic here if you wish) for a couple of minutes. Add the rice and keep turning it with a wooden spoon. Throw in all the veg and the strips of egg and keep it moving in the wok. Add a good few shakes of soy sauce, continue frying till it's heated right through and serve.
I love this and with a good sweet and sour sauce it'll be great - can I come to tea please :D

Many thanks Suggs I always thought I was a Terry's old girl, now I'm told I'm an old git!!!!! You can go off people :rotfl:

Hi Shaun and welcome. If you want to lose weight steadily (no quick fixes here) you need to be looking at a healthier diet and lifestyle. I'm a Slimming World fan, so that's what I recommend, but any healthy eating plan will do the trick. Lots of low-fat, low-sugar foods, with smaller portions of protein, calcium and fibre (in the form of meat/fish, milk/cheese and wholemeal bread, pasta or cereals). Cut down on alcohol (yes, I'm sorry, but you have to, lol) and drink lots of water - at least 2 litres a day. This coupled with 30 mins of brisk walking every day will see the pounds fall off.

Me4bargains I'm sorry you feel so rough and I hope you're soon feeling more chipper! Well done on the 2lb loss :T

Obesity and reducing obesity are many-faceted problems, but in essence, obesity is caused by salt sensitivity. All that is normally necessary to lose weight is to eat less salt/sodium, and, preferably, eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, because the potassium these contain helps to displace excess sodium from the body.

Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it!
    See my website https://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk
(The site does not sell anything and has no banners or sponsors or adverts - just helpful information.)

I'll be taking this with a very large pinch of salt!

Not literally though, as I've been cutting down the amount of salt I eat for over a year and it hasn't made a scrap of difference to my weight. If you follow the link there's information on the website stating that there's no scientific evidence to suggest that eating too many calories causes obesity, or that reducing calories results in weight loss, which is quite radical thinking and would be more believable if it was backed up with some evidence based on proper scientific trials, rather than anecdotal evidence.

    What do others think?

Hi Lois, I had a fritata - slice the sweet potato really thinly and bake in the oven for a bit, then dry fry some lean mince and add two leeks and a finely chopped yellow pepper. when they're done, add a bit of cayenne peppera and some chicves, beat 4 eggs and pour over, then put the sweet potato slices on top. Cook on the hob for a bit then stick under the grill till done. OH had no idea there were so many veggies in it! and if you're careful wit hthe sweet potatoes, not many syns on red

Got it out of JS magazine - found another nice one too . . . half some cherry toms and put in a baking dish and top with a piece of smoked cod loin. Thinly slice some spuds over the top, season and spray with fry light. I use half a HEA( ie i eat 1 babybel and have 14g parmesan) in some parmesan on the top if you like and bake till potatoes are crispy and fish looks done. I usually have this on green with the fish as a HEB as there aren't enough potatoes to warrant a HEB on red.

Hi KPC - your fritata sounds lovely - have you thought of doing it with Quorn instead of mince, making it free on green? I saw the cod loin recipe somewhere - must have been on their website - it looks good too.

    Evening all

I've followed the plan 100% for five days, but tomorrow is going to be something of a challenge. I'm at a conference all day, lunch is provided which is likely to be a finger buffet, and then a Chinese restaurant has been booked for the evening meal. I love Chinese, and hopefully there'll be some healthier choices on the menu, but I'm probably going to need some flexible syns.

Shaun - welcome to the thread. It's frightening when you find out you have a lot of weight to lose, but try not to let it put you off. I recommend you set yourself interim targets, say a stone at a time, then once you hit your first target the second one becomes easier. And don't be too impatient - recommended weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds each week, which may not sound much, but soon starts to make a difference.

Me4Bargains - sorry to hear you've not been feeling well, I hope you're on the mend. Well done for your 2lb loss :T

Oakdale-minx - it is possible to cook food for a special occasion and still stick to the SW plan. Your OH doesn't even have to realise it's 'diet' food! How about starting off with a free soup, such as red pepper, or cauliflower and horseradish, followed with pork with mustard topping, new potatoes and lots of free vegetables, and Ginger banoffee pudding for afters. Let me know if you want the recipes and I'll email them to you.

Suggs - enjoy your rugby tomorrow.

I'll be home late tomorrow so I'll catch up with you all on Sunday, in between sorting out the housework and the washing!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    Hello
I'd love to have a go at making SW style red lentil soup tomorrow but have no idea where to start.
I have a cooker, blender and microwave but absolutely no culinary skills.
Any easy to follow recipes that a complete novice can try?
    Thanks
    Rachel.

Hi Rachel - there's a recipe for vegetable soup that contains red lentils, which is fairly easy to do here. You can adjust the recipe to suit yourself by leaving out some of the ingredients, just reduce the amount of liquid you add - you can always put more in at the end if it's too thick. :)

  • minx, pick up this months SW - the one with 'be your something self' on the front. It;s got a full chinese spread that i really enjoyed.

Lois, good call on te fritata, but OH is scared enough already. I didthe creamy roasted veg lasagne tonight foff the recipe thread and whilsthe said he really enjoyed it he wouldn't have wanted it without the two chicken drumsticks that went with it . . . . .

    Hi all

Hope you are all well. Didn't come on last night as absolutely shattered after work. Not sure I was as 'over' my cold as I thought I was. Feeling okay tonight but have been catching up with a friend I haven't spoken to in ages and was on the phone for 2 hours - aaarrrgghhh - another good way not to snack is to talk on the phone for hours lol.

Sorry Suggs forgot to weigh in today - doh! To much excitement getting the little one to the potty and getting dressed that I forgot :rotfl: I shall weigh in tomorrow morning instead.

Its my birthday on Sunday so hoping its a good weight loss so I can indulge a little. Have already done the shopping for next week so even if I have a little blip on Sunday I will be back on the straight and narrow on Monday.

Welcome to the newbies - some more gentlemen amongst us great the more the merrier - by the way we don't nag just friendly kicks up the bum when you need them, and yes humour is a good thing on here.

Speak soon, good luck for the weekend all.
