Well done Jenpoptab- start thinking bikini!!!
Just back from SW class - couldn't stay for class as decided to be energetic and walk there (about 30 mins walk) - and so I took the dog - who weighs 1 and a half stones (just found out by putting him the scales after me!).
I have somehow lost 0.5 lbs this week- a bit puny i know but better than I'd expected. My faith is restored!
TallGirl - travelling sucks sometimes doesn't it? I find it really hard sometimes to eat good stuff and not be tempted by nice things after a long days work followed by a few hours drive home or a night in a hotel. However, I've been home or just in the office all week and this week have been more tempted and given in more often than ever before. Weird?
Off to make something for tea now.
Take care
Rachel.

Story about how Madrid has banned underweight models from their fashion show. Disciminating perhaps (do they/would they ban overweight models too??) but interesting.
You wouldn't say it is discriminating if you knew the story better...
The crude reality is they will never have the chance to discriminate overweight models because they don't even consider their existence. Only brands specialised in extra large sized clothes use models that are over size 14.
So this is the story so far:
the two main yearly fashion shows in Spain are Gaudi (in Barcelona) and Cibeles (in Madrid). For long years now they have been using models that are clearly undernourished and some of them even fall ill during those events because they are forced to lose even more weight. I'll show you a couple of pics later of some models so that you can judge yourself.
Such unhealthy requirements from designers towards their models have been mining the tender minds of young girs and the increase in anorexia cases has been alarming in the last years. Terrible. I won't digress on anorexia now and will go on.
Some years ago criticisms were so high pitched that designers participating in that year's Gaudi catwalk decided to make up a sort of "treaty" in which they all agreed to employ only models who were over size 6, relieving pressure from the media for the benefit of young impressionable girls and society in general.
In reality, they all went on doing whatever they pleased. It is not rare to see skinny models with hollow eyes, bones protruding everywhere and blue hands. As if that were beauty.
Here a pic:
This is what you could see at the last Cibeles catwalk, a few months ago. Girls weighting 8 stone who are actually 1.81 m tall.
Some journalists decided to criticise it and it gave room to a lot of talk. And the outcome is the agreement JenI posted in her link. Who knows, maybe they'll decide to follow it and be more honest with their clients and more human with their employees.
As if it weren't enough that the mannequins in many shops are smaller than normal size and some shops, like Mango, place deforming mirrors in their shops (apart from the usual play on lights in the dressing rooms).
Do you really think it's discriminating? I say it's doing a favour to those poor souls that work as models.'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -
At last I've taken the bike again to work. Last month I used it only once!
The idea is to cycle to work at least twice a week, that really helps me to keep fit, and it's mostly a pleasant trip that allows me to have some fresh air between home and work. I arrive back home really tired, but it's worth it. And I am a little less tired every time
Plus it is a big help for my diet!:D
Now I would like to ask something.
I keep buying fruit and vegetables and they leave them in the fridge/bowl/freezer indefinitely. If they don't come in a planned meal or are surplus to requirements, many times when I need to think of some other meal I just stare at them and wonder... or plainly ignore them. They don't really seem to fit anywere! Meat is the same, actually. Sometimes I decide to go round to the butchers and buy something fresh and nice for a proper bake... look, become indifferent, go away without buying (and that before looking at the price tags, honest).
Does anybody feel the same? Am I just plain silly or what?'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -
Just to let you all know that the tried and tested ways to lose weight still work.
Am currently playing the sun and sand (no sea though:D ) abroad and have been going to the gym for an hour a day, four days aweek. Have cut out alcohol (probably because they won't let us have any:beer: ) and stopped the chocolate.
In six weeks I have dropped from 104kg to 93kg. Have 9 weeks left so hopefully I 'll get to target weight of around 85kg. Only thing left to do is decide how not to put it back on when I get back to the UK!
Oh, and it's damm hot as well!
good luck all

Suggs, sorry to have been so long giving you any answers, not been home from work long (late finish on Wednesday). Many thanks to Honey for filling the gap and giving you the info you wanted (or perhaps didn't really want :rotfl: )
Instead of Dunkers, have you thought about having crispbreads such as Ryvita Crackerbread, spread with Laughing Cow Extra Light Triangles?
The Crackerbread are 1 syn each and the LC triangles are 1 syn each. I love them with some chopped cucumber or tomato on top and they may be more filling than the Dunkers.
Your dried fruit is quite high in syns, but it is very good for you (full of fibre) so I think that's a good balance and it's a good 'new' food too :T
You don't seem to eat a great deal considering how hard (and often) you work in the gym. When you are very hungry it's all too easy to give in to temptation and regret it afterwards. The chicken was great but the breadrolls were not so good. I do know how you feel, cos bread's one of my weaknesses too, but it has little to recommend it health-wise (specially white bread)! I'm sure you know that you'd have been better off having a jacket potato and veggies with the meat.
I'm sorry, this sounds very 'preachy' (I think I have soap-box issues). At the end of the day, you're doing incredibly well with your diet so you're not doing much wrong
Jenpoptab :rotfl: your dance movements obviously work on the scales. Congratulation on your weight loss and being so very close to your healthy BMI, well done!!!!
Madauri I do know how you mean, I do that too. Rather than let the veg go to waste though, it's so easy to scrub or peel them, chuck them in a big pan with some flavourings and water, simmer for an hour or so then whizz with a hand-blender and make a batch of 'free' soup. I've started buying a lot of fish cos it cooks so quickly and with new potatoes or a jacket potato and some frozen peas there's a meal on the table within 20 mins or so. Another good way to make quick, easy and nutritious meals is to get a slow-cooker. I bless mine every time I get it out the cupboard. Just chuck everything in and wait for it to be ready - yay, my sort of meal :j
Davilown the tried and tested ways do work, you're preaching to the converted here. Cutting alcohol completely out may be a tad too much for some of us, but it's obviously done wonders for you. Well done!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

That is fantastic - perfect. Many thanks.
I can't really afford to go back to class unfortunately, and I've never been fond of classes.
I've just been to Tesco and bought two new batteries for my scales. I'm saddened but not shocked or surprised to see that my weight is one 1 pound lighter than when I joined SW 2 years ago next week.
I could have been there by now. But I'm not. So, start again, with a green day tomorrow.
My first target is 2 stone by Christmas.0 -
Good Luck - we're with you all the way!0

Consultant - I've been thinking about getting a slow cooker for a while now. Would you recommend it? What sort of things do you make in yours?
Anyone else use them?0
