Eels, as faithless pointed out skipping breakfast is asking for trouble.
Not only it helps to feel better during the day and keep the metabolism working, also if the body has nothing until so late in the day it begins to feel deprived and starts its own self-help anti-deprivation scheme... which is to store everything just in case. So by skipping breakfast you're effectively helping to slow down your weight loss.
If you want to change just one thing from refined to wholemeal, try with the bread, and keep the servings low. Rice, potatoes and pasta are quite fine, but bread is more processed and therefore has to be taken in small amounts.

Dellybelly, good luck with your baby. Maybe it is only temporary. The things you've thought as a preventive might be enough. In any case, smoking and overeating habits cannot be compared, since smoking always harms those surrounding the smoker, even long after the smoking has stopped; so don't hesitate to tell your MIL about your concerns. If you can notice the smell, imagine your baby, who isn't used to it! Just explain to her how terribly worried you are and that you need her collaboration in this. Perhaps you can present it as an experiment that must be followed to the tee in order to find the solution to the problem. If you put it in the proper words, she will even be chuffed that you rely on her.

Yeah, try saying that you want to fix it and eliminate every possible thing that could make it worse. Explain what you've done with the dog, and either ask straight out if she could stop smoking indoors or ask if she could think of anything else that may aggravate it that you could change - she might realise and take the hint?

    Hello!
It's my day off and guess what? Woke up at 5.30 am and am wide awake - rubbish! It's a beautiful day (so far anyway!) and I feel the need to do something outdoors (the sudden rush of blood must be the ungodly hour).
The back garden has turned into a jungle with the wet weather we've had recently but I hate mowing the lawn, the windows need cleaning but I'm too short and the car needs a good doing inside and out. Have no motivation to do any of these yukky tasks but will feel fat and lazy if I don't do at least one of them, hence the posting on here as it will shame me into doing something!

By the way it's my little bichon frise puppy's birthday today - he's 2 (not really a puppy anymore I know but he's soooo cute!) - so may just take him for a big birthday treat walk to the beach or park or somewhere - trying to avoid the icecream van of course!

I'm off to Prague on Sunday and have tried to be really good on the run up to it as I know I'll struggle when I'm there - stupid question- but if I do lots of energetic things between now and Sunday will it kind of stay in the "bank of being good" for my weigh in on Thursday?

Sorry for prattling on - as you can tell no-one else is up apart from me and the puppy!
    Rachel.

Sorry to hear you're so down delly. Hope things work themselves out.

Have a lovely time in prague Rachel.

Went to new Sw class last night only the venue wasn't where the map that i printed off the internet said it would be!! Instead there was a demoltion site so either the map is wrong or the venue has moved! Will be researching it today and will give the SW consultant a ring. Was so psyched (sic) up for it as well so bit of a shame!

Looks like my wedding will be in november. We're trying to get hotels and flights booked in the next few days. Can't believe how much well intended interference i've been getting from random people who want us to do it in the uk. People always surprise you don't they (especially when a wedding is mentioned!)!

    Hi consultant 31

Your lemon meringue sounds really good and I am likely to need a couple of 'good' desserts as we should be having a party somewhere in the next month or so for family.

Can you tell me how many sins etc it counts as, please

Happily it's syn free :j (Recipes in Money Saving Old Style - Losing Weight Recipe Collection) Sorry, can't do links :o
Here's another which I pinched from another board ages ago. This one is 2 syns for the lot and it's lovely (will post in the recipe section as well):-

Raspberry Pudding (could use other fruit if prefered)

    2 tubs quark
1 sachet sugar free jelly, preferably raspberry (or to match the fruit)
    ¼ pt boiling water
    1 bag/tub frozen raspberries, defrosted (approx 400g)
    2 tbsp Splenda

Put the Quark and splenda in a bowl. Make up the jelly with ¼ pt boiling water, allow to cool a little but keep stirring to stop it setting. Add the quark and mix well using a stick blender if possible.
Fold in the raspberries with a metal spoon then put into serving bowls and chill until set.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

That's very bad about the class not being where it should be. Did you get the map from SW web site? I hope you can psych yourself up again for next week - most classes are fun and friendly, but the initial walk through the door is daunting!

All the very best for your wedding. I've tried to talk my son into getting married abroad as they're both against weddings which take on a life of their own (dozens of guests turning into hundreds etc). At the end of the day, the only people who matter are the bride and groom, so ignore everybody else. I hope you have a wonderful time :)

Rachel Isn't it a bummer when you wake up early on your day off :rotfl: A walk with your birthday dog sounds much more fun than mowing the lawn (which will only grow again) or cleaning the windows (when it'll probably rain soon anyway!!!). Yes, your exercise will help if you overdo the food and drink on holiday. Often people do lots more walking on holiday than they do at home and it always shows as a smaller gain than they expected, or even better, a small loss. Go for it :T

You've seen those ads on TV promising amazing results from all sorts of contraptions. Well, there's no need to invest in fancy equipment. If you have (or can borrow) a dog, you have everything you need to get in shape now!!! The following exercises can be done anywhere, anytime.

Inner Thighs: Place the dog's favourite toy between thighs. Press tighter than the dog can pull. Do not attempt bare legged - dogs who favour shortcuts to success will just dig the toy out. You could be damaged.

Upper Body Strength: Lift the dog - off the couch, off the bed, out of the flowerbed. Repeat, repeat, repeat. As the dog ages, this exercise is reversed - onto the couch, onto the bed, into the car and so on.

Balance and Coordination, Exercise 1: Remove your puppy from unsuitable tight places. If they're too small for him, they're certainly too small for you. Do it anyway!

Balance and Coordination, Exercise 2: Practice not falling when your dog bounds across the full length of the room, sails through the air, and slams both front paws into the back of your knees.

Balance and Coordination, Exercise 3: (for use with multiple dogs) Remove all dogs from lap and answer the phone before it stops ringing.

Balance and Coordination, Exercise 4: (alternate) For older dogs, attempt to cross a room without tripping over the dog. Get off your couch without crushing any part of a sleeping elderly dog.

Upper Arms: Throw the ball. Throw the squeaky toy. Throw the Frisbee. Repeat until nauseous.

Upper Arms: (alternate) Tug the rope. Tug the pull toy. Tug the sock. Repeat until your shoulder is dislocated or the dog gives up (we all know which comes first).

Hand Coordination: Remove foreign object from dog's locked jaw. This exercise is especially popular with puppy owners. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Remember, this is a timed exercise. Movements must be quick and precise (think concert pianist) to prevent trips to the vet, which only offer the minimal exercise benefit of jaw firming clenches.

Calves: After the dog has worn out the rest of your body, hang a circular toy on your ankle and let the dog tug while you tug back. WARNING: This is feasible only for those with strong bones and small dogs. Have you taken your calcium supplement today?

Calves: (alternate) Run after dog - pick any reason, there are plenty. Dogs of any size can be used for this exercise. Greyhounds are inadvisable.

Neck Muscles: Attempt to outmanoeuvre the canine tongue headed for your ear, mouth, or eyeball. This is a lifelong fitness program. A dog is never too old or too feeble to "French Kiss" you when you least expect it.

Consultant I love that execise programme really sweet and really made me laugh. Please may I add one of my own, whihc happen to me last night

    Execise for Cat Owners:
Cat brings in mouse and forgets about it, during dinner you think your cat is looking strangely at the full lenght curtain by sliding door. Stand on chair, try to prize mouse out from the fold of the curtain using fork from dinner table. Strecth and bend down as the mouse runs up and down the curtain avoiding it running futher into the house.

I did get it out eventually but I really don't like fully live ones it is easier when they are half dead.

Don't worry the mouse was unharmed in the process and the cat did not even get to have a second go. It was just a case of using the fork to keep it on the right side of the curtain if that makes sense.
