Rachel - have a great time in Prague! It's a lovely city, OH and I were there in December last year and said we would go back again. The food there is good, but it's quite hard to stick to a healthy eating plan - they tend to serve chips and bread with every meal. And of course Czech beer is the best in the world!

Jane - mmm your chips and curry sauce has made me feel quite hungry! It's surprising how well you can eat and still lose weight. Planning ahead is the best thing to do, because when you get hungry, if you've only got unhealthy snacks in the cupboard, you'll be tempted to eat them.

No sign of stressedoutmum for the last few days, hope I didn't frighten her away. :o

Consultant31 - I did your banoffee recipe the other day when my son and his gf came round for dinner, it was gorgeous! My son usually makes some comment about my cooking like 'is that one of your diet recipes?' but he really enjoyed it too. I made one change to the recipe, which was to mix a pot of Quark with the Mullerlight, which gave it a lovely cream texture.

For the main course I did a Rosemary Conley recipe which consists of smoked haddock fillets on a layer of spinach, covered in a tomato sauce. It would be free on SW red days, and low in points for WW and it was very tasty - I must post it on the recipes thread!

Well done loopy!! You're doing very well.

Lois, the banoffee thing sounds lovely. I'll have to give it a go (ta for the recipe C31).

Sat down yesterday and properly worked out how many syns I'd used. Was surprised when i reached 10 as had only used bits like, cornflour in a pasta sauce, bit of gravy and a bit of stock. Just goes to show how i've really gotten out of the habit of keeping a mental syn tally. Sigh. :o

Still. Least I can fix it and move on. Going to my first sw class tonight (in conjunction with the RC classes on tues) and am quite excited as it'll be lovely to have more people to talk about it to!!

Have a good day all. :)

Hi Again all you lovely people
Just got back from Sunny and Hot Spain, 4 days with the girls from the company I worked with.

Thought I would update you on the bikini crisis, as you were so kind to reassure me about it. There were 9 of us mainly in their late 40's and late 30's so no really young/skinny ones. I actually felt quite fine in my bikini as I could see the others were a bit conscious of theirs too. However after a while I think everybody did relax and it did help we were women only.

Got a nice tan but on the 3rd day we were going to the beach so got the bikini on and it broke. I had mended one of the straps before going but the plastic claps broke at the back. Really really lucky I had packed my swimsuit too. Will now have to go and buy a new one as I am going to South Africa for Christmas. Maybe we could start a "what’s the best bikini style to hide the lumps and bumps" to run along side the wedding dress one. I actually think bikinis/swimsuits and wedding dresses are the two things many girls worry most about.

Anyway had lots of white wine but we did eat mainly fish and had no puddings or sweets. I did not get to weigh myself this week as away so will wait until Monday to do it.

Must get on with some work now, well done to all of you who lost weight and chin up to those feeling down. This thread is so informative, supportive and give you a real incentive to stay away from all that lovely food.

consultant 31- I plan to take it easy on hols, try and stick to WW as much as possible and as I don't really drink it's unlikely I'll be tempted whilst away. Hopefully then I'll be happy enough with my weight to try for a baby- I know it sounds crazy, but as I am now pretty much two stone lighter than when I got pregnant for both of my other children, I have no intentions of going crazy as I have tried sooooo hard to get this weight off and keep it off! It will be interesting to see if my weight loss makes my potential baby lighter than my last 2 as they were 8lb 07 and 08lb 14.

Anyway good luck this week everyone.

  • Hi All,
Jenpoptab - I was 2 stone lighter (at my lightest since 18 yrs old) when I got pregnant with my second baby. She was 11oz lighter than the other one, but I still looked just as huge - although I do like a heavier baby in some ways because you don't fret quite so much if they don't feed well initially or if they get ill!
Anyway, I went and got weighed last night after my 2lb gain last week (4 nights out which went horribly wrong! ). I knew why I had put on the 2lb so was OK, you know some of it was the fact that I had been quite bad the week before and got away with a maintain, I think I relaxed then and hence 2lb gain! This week I have been away for the weekend staying with my sister. There have been lots of snacks around and I have drunk quite a lot, but always had SW in the back of my mind, so probably didn't eat half as much as I would have done otherwise, and I lost 1lb!! I am really pleased and it has motivated me for this week. I have people coming over two nights this weekend and my husbands 40th, but it's all my cooking so I have planned lots of meals which wont mean me missing out!
Hope everyone has a good week/weekend!

Phew! Just back from a lovely brisk stroll with the dogs, what a beautiful day! Hopefully we'll have another nice walk this evening when OH gets home.

I'm not following a plan or attending a group because my problems are lifestyle ones - I've never been slim since childhood so I really need to change everything for good. To this end I have been making little changes, which is great because I feel confident I can sustain them so far. But I thought about what we've eaten this week, while I've been able to spend time cooking, and I'm wondering what you guys think about it? What should I change?
Monday: wholemeal toast; homemade mushroom soup; vegetable, bean and beef chilli with baked potato. Plus fruit and drinks.
Tuesday: skipped breakfast :o ; leftover chilli with some pasta; prawn and vegetable curry and white rice. Fruit, drinks.
Wednesday: fruit for breakfast; leftover curry and rice; vegetable and bacon risotto; fruit and drinks and some homemade flapjacks :A
So far today, no breakfast ... :o

Now, I'm not going to suddenly start having wholemeal everything and black tea and all that malarkey, because I'll never keep it up. But I've made sure any meaty meals are really bulked out with veg and I use beans a lot anyway. In general I avoid full fat anything anyway. I drink fruit juice a lot (possibly too much), but my main drinks are tea and fruit squash. Snack wise I'm terrible, at work I am faced with endless biccies daily. So when I am off I find it much easier to have fruit or to cook myself something like flapjacks - that way I put a lot of effort into making whatever it is, and don't just shove it into my face thoughtlessly ...

My concern is that I think I probably need to try and move towards low GI principles a bit more before facing the work biscuit tin again - I have always loved potato, rice, pasta and bread, and I know this is pretty much like eating sugar by the spoonful. If I was going to start by changing one thing to wholemeal, what would you suggest?

TallGirl - go you with the slinky bikini body! I'm a long way off bikini days yet I'm afraid (would need to shop for it in Tiso I thinK!) so I'm so chuffed that you felt able to wear it - well done! I hope you have fun in Prague, Rachel. What fab jobs you lot have, it's not fair! And QT, 1/2lb is still really good - I think although any of us would be delighted to lose 1/2 a stone, I'd be a bit worried about how sustainable that level of weight loss would be! ;)

Eels100 Thanks for the compliement I gread to see the pictures though. I don't follow a plan or go to classes but try like you to eat healthty and stop the snacks. I used to work in an office where we always had lots of biscuits. We decided we wanted to loose weight and set up a little club with weigh-ins every Friday. We paid £1 if we had put on weight, 50p if we stayed the same and nothing if we had lost. If was really good as we kept each other going when someone wanted to go out and top up the biscuit tin we stayed strong and didn't do it. It was the same for buying chocolate and crips. I really miss that and I am sure that is why I have put on 1st since leaving that job 9 months ago.

I happen to like wholemeal and my favorite is Danish Ryebread. I would try Dark Rye Ryvetas with low fat philly chesse my favorite snack. I am no expert on what food is good or bad so can't comment on your diet but that is the great thing about this place there are so many experts. It really has opened up a new world to me. I have never had to diet before and never really thought about food in terms of calories etc so this forum is great.

Eels: I'm sure people far more experienced than I will come along and give you advice shortly, but I'm here atm, so might as well have a go.

You should probably try to eat something for breakfast every day, even if it's just a piece of fruit, cos (as far as I understand it) breakfast kickstarts your body out of conservation stage (when you're 'fasting' while you're asleep), and gets your metabolism going for the day. You might be less prone to snacking if you've had breakfast too. Wholemeal toast like you had the one day is pretty good as it's complex carbs which keep you full for longer.

Your fruit snacking habits are great, but I don't think fruit juice is that good for you - only one glass can count towards your daily fruit intake, and it's got quite a lot of sugar in it. It's also quite acidic and so bad for your teeth - dentists recommend drinking it with food or a straw to limit the contact time with your teeth. It's probably best to replace all bar one of the fruit juices with water (or if you don't like water, a low cal squash), unless you're drinking something like Innocent smoothies, which are just liquid fruit with no added anything! They'll still be quite high in calories from all the natural sugar though.

In tea, do you have sugar? When I drink coffee, I couldn't replace all the sugar with sweeteners, so I have half sugar, half sweetener now - not great, but better than all sugar!

I'd change as much as you can stick to wholemeal - e.g I hated brown rice and bread, but didn't really notice the difference with pasta. One trick (until you're used to the taste) is to do half white, half brown, so you don't notice so much.

    Hope this helps!

I haven't posted my weight this week because when I was so time-of-the-month bloated Mon I figured it wouldn't be accurate and might put me off, so I'll weigh next Mon.

I'm aching all over today - last night I went back to a kickboxing class I did for 3 yrs before I went to uni, and it nearly killed me! Felt good after though, and now I'm going to try going twice a week again , and carry on swimming a couple of times a week.

I had a think about my diet, and figure if I could replace all the chocolate I eat with fruit, my diet would be pretty good! So am going to have a go of that...

I got the batteries for my scales (again) and had a look and I am not impressed. So will be starting to keep track of things this time. Eldest has to see a nutritionist so to help her along, we will both be keeping a food diary.

Hoping to lose 3lbs by next friday! Just got to keep with it, need firm reminders or kicks up the wotsits:eek: Any PM volunteers willing to give me a weekly booty kick??? :D

Will check in later all. You guys are doing so well :T
