Went for my run today. Did a different route from the one I got jeered on before. This time got jeered at by grown men in cars. No doubt I look quite funny at 16 stone doing my extremely slow run but it just seems so mean. I run with my MP3 player on so I couldn't really hear it but it makes me not want to run, and I need the exercise. I can't afford to join a gym. Came home in tears.
I feel too self-conscious to join a normal gym. At least I didn't eat about this. Just cried. OH said he'd give me the money to join the all women's gym, gymophobics, until I can pay for it myself. Has anyone here joined gymophobics? They're a different type of gym and I want to know if their method works.
I know I'm being sensitive but I used to enjoy running and getting jeered at just kills the pleasure I get from it. And makes me dread going again.
Sorry for the moan--I just needed to get this off my chest tonight. lisele0 -
What a bunch of Wa****rs!
Don't let them get you down - I think you're fab for even trying. I'm too flipping lazy to get up off the settee! Don't know about that gym but mine (when I go) isn't too bad - there's all shapes and sizes there, from the usual lycra lovelies to normal types with wobbly bits like everyone else. I think that everyone is in the same boat- worrying about what they look like and too busy to worry about what anyone else looks like. I think it's braver to go out on the road running than in a nice safe warm gym where at least everyone is there for the same reason.
And before you ask - I'm not a skinny minny!0 -

Hi Dellybelly - I know how to do it, and here goes with trying to explain it...!
When you're adding a link to a message, you click on the Insert Link icon, paste the link into the new window that appears, then click OK - your new link is pasted into the message in bold - type whatever you want to replace the link with (e.g click here) - and it will replace it. Click preview post, and you'll be able to see whether it worked before you submit your message.
Hope this makes sense!

lisele that's awful. I know it's hard but try and keep your chin up. I go to a women's gym, I could never go to a mixed one. It took me ages to get the courage to go but I really like it now, although I don't go as often as I should, and I do love the sauna and hot tub. I think a women's one is a great idea. My gym has a buddy system where you can work out with someone who comes at the same times you do. That might be a start, if your new gym doesn't do that suggest it.
Don't let these so and sos get you down.0 -
(((((((((lisele))))))))))
You went out and ran again, which is far more than I could have done - I'd probably have let those little b*ggers win and stayed home forever more and got fatter. You have my unending admiration for holding your head high and getting on with your life in spite of the plebs we have to share our planet with. It's pathetic that adults can be as vile as little boys, but then that's all they were - just overgrown snotty-nosed brats. Think how good it'll feel when they're wolf-whistling and you can knock them back! Please don't let this set you back, I think you're great! :grouphug: :grouphug:0 -

Hi Lisele (((hugs))) - that's so mean of them, you'd think grown men would know better than little boys. grrr! Have you thought about cycling instead of running? You might feel less self conscious, and you'd still be getting exercise, increasing your fitness levels and losing weight. Then in a couple of months, the new svelte you will be able to return to running with increased confidence, and you can turn your nose up at these insensitive pigs.

Hi Lois,
It does make sense, however, tried it, didn't seem to work. I'll give it another go some other time.
lisele, well done you for going running again. Just ignore those w***ers who give you abuse.... they'd be the same type to hang over the scaffolding on building sites shouting when you're slim and sexy from all that running.... just different words. As for joining the gym... if you do, well done, I found it mind numbingly boring. I joined one last year for 3 months and hated it. If you enjoy going for a run.... (as the nike ad says) Just do it. I love to go for walks and usually walk down a path beside a dual carriage way near my house... all the car horns and lorries beeping used to really put me off. Now I just ignore them.

Thansk everyone.
Lois.. I have to go to the docs every 11 weeks... and figured I'll get weighed there otherwise I would start getting obsessed with the scales at home (not that I've got any!!!). I thought 11 weeks would give a bigger more positive picture then weekly.
Seems to be working so far.. even if I was dreaming about going to the Doc 3 weeks before!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092
