What age did you baby start walking?

DS2 was 16.5 months, and we were all convinced he was walking when no-one was looking! But if you 'caught' him standing completely unsupported, he'd give a huge grin and flop down on his bum again. :rotfl:My DD is nearly 15 months old and not walking yet. I'm not too concerned but was just wondering if anyone has experience of late walkers? My son walked at 14 months but my daughter is not really showing any signs at 15 months. She pulls herself up to cruise around the furniture and will walk if you hold one hand but when we let go she just sinks to the floor! She will also walk with a toddle truck.
Once he did start, he was very steady on his feet and there was no stopping him.
I was glad to see the link patchworkcat provided, DS1 was forever pushing himself onto his feet when held, and pushing away with his feet if laid on his back. MIL kept saying it wasn't good for him, but it was impossible to stop him, and he really wasn't happy if he couldn't push.xmaslolly76 wrote: »Not sure what my new one will be yet he is only 5 months but he loves to feel his feet and we have to force him to sit down instead of stand up when we are holding him so he doesnt bow his legs :-)
He's fine, now aged 22.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Bum-shufflers are notoriousy later walkers than proper crawlers.
I'd agree with that. My daughter, who walked at 19 months was a bum-shuffler.
My mum said I was a bum shuffler too, I never crawled and I walked at 14 months. Mum said she could wallpaper a room with me sitting in the middle of it and I wouldn't move. Her friends with livelier babies couldn't believe it. :rotfl: I'm still placid and lazy though!

My 2nd son who didn't walk until 18 months was also a bottom shuffler. I didn't know that these babies tended to walk later! The only other baby I knew who shuffled instead of crawled was my littlest sister but not sure when she started to walk.0

As a physio (though not in paeds) I wouldn't be concerned with your daughter as she is doing lots of things in preparation for walking. She won't be so motivated to walk if she is able to get around comfortably other ways.
One baby I know has 2 very athletic parents but didn't walk until nearly 15 months - now she is running 2 months later! Also, she was getting around very well, and is incredibly verbal, so she was just working on other skills first, and walking wasn't her priority. I wouldn't be concerned with your daughter unless she doesn't develop any skills further, but it sounds like she is.0 -
DS was walking at 9 months old but both dds weren't until they were 18/19 months.
They are all fine now, although ds is still naturally more active.
I think it depends on their personality as ds was into everything as a baby (he was always looking for the next thing to explore!), whereas dds were happy to sit and play with toys iyswim?
My mil said the girls were taking it easy while they could, but she is a traditional and thinks women should do all the housework, cooking etc...!!0 -

My DD was sitting unaided at 4 months, crawling at 6 months and cruising at 8 months. Everyone used to say "Oh she'll be an early walker" but because she could climb and get to everything she needed she wasn't too fussed about walking. She took her first steps at 10 1/2 months and then walking took over from crawling at 11 1/2 iyswim. She was the sort of baby that another poster described, who would never lie down, always had to be held upright and wanted to 'walk' with you holding her all the time. She loved her door bouncer too!
All little ones are different and comparing them will only make you worry. It may seem like everyone else' babies are walking but your little girl will be able to do things those walking babies can't. It's swings and roundabouts. My mum's favourite expression is "they won't go to school........(insert: Not walking/ with a bottle/ still BF/ not being able to talk etc) basically saying don't worry about it they will do it eventually.0 -
Don't worry, my DD was an early walker but a late talker, she concentrated on the walking rather than talking - her speech is getting there but is still behind some of her peers.Proud to be dealing with my debts

As everyone has said I woudnt worry . My DD started walking at around 13 months and she is now 3 . I found it a gradual thing as she never crawled but moved around the furniture , and did the odd few steps on her own when you wernt watching as if it was a game .
I only have the one but my friends children and other stories ive heard is normally children with older brothers and sisters seem to take longer - Im not saying its a fact but maybe thats because they tend to get more done for them by there siblings than single children .
My little brother was over 2 years old when he started walking and we were concerned at the time but once he started there was no stopping him and he was into everything.
I think they do it in there own time - Which is the day you realise you need eyes in the back of your head :rotfl:Ebay Bag A Day Challenge 2012- :staradmin

Hi.
My DD is nearly 15 months old and not walking yet.
Any advice will be gratefully received!
I was 20 months before I walked, my son was 18 months before he walked. It really doesn't matter."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
!!!!!! is all that about?0
