Hummingbird cake for our village fete.
I got the recipe from the Hummingbird Cookbook and it is very fruity and quite unusual. It's big, so I usually make it for a family get-together, with the suggested cream cheese "frosting".
However, this time I'm going to use jam to sandwich it together and a drizzle icing. Less rich and less of a problem in the warm afternoon (!)0 -
I made an improvised Clafoutis. I used Blueberries and rhubarb instead of cherries and it was lovely!First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Ive recently started to try and learn to bake with very little success. Today i made choc cup cakes. I followed the recipe 100% but after cooking for the stated amount of time they were still runny / sticky in the middle. So i baked them for 10 mins longer, continually checking them. Once i believed they were cooked all the way through i left them to cool.
Ive just tried one and they are so dry I doubt anyone will be able to eat them. Such a waste of ingrediants.
Any ideas why this happened? Should i have taken them out after the correct amount of time and maybe they would slowly continue to finish the baking process??
Can you tell im a baking novice!!
Thanks

Welcome on here, Pix
I would not worry too much, do keep baking using different recipes! All ovens vary and not all recipes work.
I always stick a skewer in at the recommended time and if it comes out clean it's done. If not, leave it for 5 minutes, try again. If you open the oven door too often it first cools it down too much which in turn makes the oven's thermostat push up the temperature, that's probably why your lovelies dried out in the end. I hope this helps.
