A fabulous fruit tart from a book ( Popina Book of Baking) I ordered from the book people. I can't recommend it enough, the recipes are pretty straightforward to make but end results are like something you'd only be able to buy from a very upmarket bakery. Plus it was only £4.99, was selling in local waterstones for full price of £16.99.

Oh, and some empire biscuits - and I can't understand how my diet isn't working:o0 -
Yesterday I made a batch of date, oat and walnut cookies from here. I added extra oats and coconut to try up the calories for my super skinny OH. Its a nightmare living with such a skinny person when I only have to look at food to put weight on........I made some mini ones for me as I knew I'd never be able to resist them!!0

2 banana cakes using Nigella's blissful recipe - complete with French unsalted butter and sultanas soaked in brandy (recipe says bourbon but I don't have any). The only other thing I changed was that she includes nuts, which I don't put in. My motto is, why have nuts when you can have no nuts?0

I've made that Nigella-recipe banana cake quite a few times and I always substitute the bourbon (because I don't have any) for that bottle of Amaretto I'm trying to use up. I've also changed the dried fruit around depending on whim. So far I've used mixed, dried fruit, regular dried fruit chopped finely (prunes, apricots and apple) and chopped dates. It also turns out quite well with some chocolate thrown in, either cocoa, chopped dark chocolate or both. I never exclude nuts because I love them so.0 -

Two large loaves and a dozen rolls made with 2lbs Doves Farm Organic Wholemeal and one third strong white flour, to keep the cost down. I used to use 100% wholemeal. Thinking to try Mr. S. strong wholemeal instead of DF to bring the cost down even further, and may even try substituting basics plain flour for the strong white flour - cheaper still.
Would be interested to hear if anyone has done this and with what rate of success. I make my bread by hand by the way.
Oh, and I also made a batch of date scones using a third basics SR flour to two thirds Allinsons wholemeal,
