A food mixer is quick but a jar with a lid works just as well
Reduced price double cream ( I got pints for 10p after Christmas ) Bring to room temp and pour into jar. You need a jar that is twice the volume of the cream. Seal it and shake. And shake and shake
The cream will thicken. Then it will lump and then the butter milk will separate. When you have a ball of butter in a jar of sloshy liquid it's done
Tip into a sieve and rinse it well. I pat mine dry with kitchen paper and wrap in grease proof for storing
If left unsalted it freezes well. If you want to add salt I add mine when made just kneading it in after rinsing
1 pint of cream makes about half a pound of butter
I would keep the liquid ( the buttermilk) that separates out. It makes lovely scones or soda bread.0 -

How long do you need to prove it for? It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

And also how do you measure your runny honey and salt... in teaspoons or tablespoons? Did you miss out the liquid?

Looks good!
To make butter, I literally just whisk the cream with an electric whisk until it goes from whipped cream into over whipped cream and eventually turns into a solid mass sloshing around in milky liquid. I then rinse and add salt if required as others have described. The buttermilk is yummy, don't waste it. Be aware though that it is different to bought buttermilk, which is cultured and therefore sour - so won't work for some recipes.
Costco cream can be cheap enough to compare to bought butter, and comes in litre bottles. Otherwise, you have to rely on yellow stickered cream, as it works out more expensive than buying butter if you have to use full price supermarket cream.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Is homemade bread supposed to taste really yeasty (in the back of your throat) or does that mean that you've not proved it long enough?0
