    A loaf that size probably took about 500g of flour. A 1.5kg bag of strong white bread flour is currently 80p (ASDA) or 85p (Tesco). OK, you ought to factor in something for the yeast, salt & oil, plus the energy to cook it. And, of course, you know exactly what is (and isn't) in it.
    If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

    That works out around 47p a loaf. That is roughly what mine are.
    It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

    47p, not bad! I was under the impression it was more expensive to bake your own bread! I love making bread, I might perhaps have a go at doing it again :) Thanks for the inspiration
