You always remember your first loaf of bread.
I didn't have a loaf tin at the time, so I made mine on a baking tray and, to be honest, it looked like a cowpat. It tasted OK, though.
It's also that warm feeling that, no matter how bad things get for those of us who aren't "hard working" enough to send a child to Eton, you know that you can now make bread. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

You always remember your first loaf of bread.
I don't remember my first loaf, but I remember one my DH made one year. It was before we were married, and he was out of work. One Valentine's Day he decided to make me a loaf of bread as a present. He didn't have a recipe or anything, but just threw the ingredients together. It got so huge that he had to put it in the oven to stop it growing :rotfl: It was an enormous loaf (not done in a tin).0 -
Oh your loaf looks really good, much better than my first attempt!
Maybe you could make your own butter to go with it, that's what I'm about to do in the next few days. I'm assured by my workmate it is very easy to make and the nicest butter I will ever taste. He advises to look out for yellow stickered pots of double cream...so I willMake £10 a day challenge Jan £231.630 -

Does anyone know if you change auger for sweetner is it the same weight s eg 8oz sugar then I use 8oz of sweetner seems loads as very light
I haven't a clue with low fat food lol
It depends really, I recently made a diabetic cake and replaced sugar with xylitol and the ratio is 1:1 but I know if you use sweeteners such as truvia you use less (about a 1/3 less I think).
Hello all! This week I've baked; a diabetic almond and lemon drizzle cake, chocolate macaroons and choux buns filled with French custard and topped with ganache. My friend is having a birthday bash on Saturday so I'm planning on making some petit fours instead of a cake'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good'0 -
Well done, it looks moreish :j:T
Watch how many cook books your family buy you next year :rotfl:
You wanna see how many I have already. :rotfl:I can almost smell it from hereIt looks scrummy.
Is it all wholemeal or have you used some white flour too? I make mine using 25% wholemeal 75% white (which reminds me I need to go and get my dough into the tins)
ETA I bought a copy of 'Bread' but wasn't impressed with the recipes in it so sent it to the charity shop. I found the proportions of flour/water didn't work. The malt loaf dough was more like a cake batter and didn't rise.
This one is 100% whole meal, going to have a go at making a white loaf and also a 50/50, once Ive got through some of 5 bags of strong whole meal flour I've bought after making this loaf. :eek:Camillia_Chubb wrote: »Oh your loaf looks really good, much better than my first attempt!

Re: Butter making.
Well my workmate did explain to me how to do it but upon further research, watching online vids, I rather think he goes the long way about it. I've just watched this video and think its quite a good explanation if you have a food processor. But any kind of whisk is good. I'm going to research further until I get hold of yellow stickered cream. I'll let you know if its worth itMake £10 a day challenge Jan £231.630 -
Loaf looks great. I love the smell of homemade bread cooking. There's one thing better than the still warm crust of a homemade loaf and that's the still warm crust of a homemade loaf with homemade jam on. Bliss and costs pennies if you've foraged / scrounged / been given the fruit! i would say enjoy but I bet the loaf has gone already.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons0
