    Don't they! :T
  • You have all inspired me to get back to baking.

I am not a natural baker and normally I only bake recipes out of the bero cook book that I inherited from my mum as I know that they work. Oh and twinks hob nobs as they arent baking as such (more melting together and keeping an eye on in the oven)

So anyway I have a few baking related questions -

I am thinking about a lemon drizzle cake which I am going to do in a silicone 1lb loaf tin - do I need to grease it first?

When I beat sugar and butter together can you over beat it? It has to really light yellow doesnt it?

I was going to make a date and walnut cake but tesco delivery swapped by walnuts for almonds - will that be ok or do dates and almonds not go together?

Any help greatly received and also any easy recipes also appreciated.

    BBx
  • Well - I did it - I made a lemon drizzle cake - had to leave it in the oven a little longer than i would have liked (tempremental oven) but it is made and has been sampled and is quite tasty.

mmm a thread on cooking :) I used to be hugely into baking and cooking but due to health issues i've had to cut down alot this last year. I've just got back into it all this last week and have gone a bit OTT if im honest.

Yesterday I made beef casserole with some beef from the freezer and some carrots I got for 10p from the supermarket
today was chicken and bacon pie from 1 chicken breast and some left over bacon in the fridge. served with mashed potato/parsnip (another 10p bargain)
I have also just chucked the rest of the sausages from mine & DD's dinner (we dont like bacon) into the left over gravy along with a bit of fried onion and covered with the left over mash potato with parsnip for DH's dinner tomorrow

Am I taking old style money saving to far??

And a quick question for all you old stylers. I got a punnet of nectarines and a large net of oranges for 10p each what can I make with them as I dont want to have them go off and throw them away :(

A parsnip and maple syrup cake from this recipe to use up some manky parsnips left over from Christmas Day. I have no mascarpone so will probably either make a buttercream icing or just whip a bit of double cream with some maple syrup and a bit of icing sugar and use that to sandwich it together.

I had a lovely new cookbook for Christmas, an American one called Baking From My Home To Yours by Dorie Greenspan and I'm desperate to start working my way through it, but our house is full of biscuits and sweeties from Christmas and I'm trying to resist until it gets used up :(
