If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

ooh I haven't baked anything for ages so I thought I would celebrate by coming out of lurkdom!

2 carrot cakes in the oven - were very nearly just a spicy sultana sponge as I nearly forgot the carrots :o

do we have any soda bread experts on this thread? I made a couple of loaves a few weeks ago when the shops had sold out of yeast. I love the taste but know it doesn't keep long. Could I make the dough the night before and pop it in the oven in the morning? would that work?

I would think not :( The bicarb will be activated as soon as it comes into contact with liquid. If you left it sitting overnight, by the time morning came it'd probably be dead.

You could always mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl, measure out the wet ingredients and have them in a jug in the fridge and just mix it all together in the morning and throw it in the oven.

oh thanks angeltreats, hadn't really thought that through had I? :o I'll try your idea - would like to be able to offer fresh soda bread for breakfast to my guests (esp as one of them tries not to eat too much yeast)
