2 carrot cakes in the oven - were very nearly just a spicy sultana sponge as I nearly forgot the carrots
do we have any soda bread experts on this thread? I made a couple of loaves a few weeks ago when the shops had sold out of yeast. I love the taste but know it doesn't keep long. Could I make the dough the night before and pop it in the oven in the morning? would that work?weaving through the chaos...0 -

I would think notThe bicarb will be activated as soon as it comes into contact with liquid. If you left it sitting overnight, by the time morning came it'd probably be dead.
You could always mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl, measure out the wet ingredients and have them in a jug in the fridge and just mix it all together in the morning and throw it in the oven.0 -

oh thanks angeltreats, hadn't really thought that through had I?I'll try your idea - would like to be able to offer fresh soda bread for breakfast to my guests (esp as one of them tries not to eat too much yeast)

Entertaining 2mo. Only mum n fav aunt but will be nice. So today i baked Chocolate and cranberry brownies. Also 1 4oz sponge which i will load with whipped cream n defrosted homegrown strawberries!!0
