Did you do the Be-Ro recipe where you soak the dates plus a pinch bicarb in boiling water for 15mins before adding the lot- water and dates - to the mixture. My mixture was very soft and the final cooked result quite moist. Maybe yours is a different version of the book?
My recipe just says chop dates and pour150ml boing water over them and with pinch of bi carb. No mention of soaking them. I probably left them for about 5 minutes while I mixed the rest. I will have to try it again sometime.0 -

Made a garlic flatbread to go with pasta & meatballs for dinner. I kept back a little bit of the dough and used it to make 2 mini pizzas for the kids lunch tomorrow.
