Carrot cake for a mate at work who's retiring soon.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Soak 11b mixed fruit in 1/2 pint tea overnight.
Stir in 7 oz brown sugar, 1 egg and 9 oz self-raising flour.
Turn into a loaf tin and cook at 160C fan until done. I think it took about an hour. Then we ate it with cheese, which is really fatty.
Do you use dark or light brown sugar?
I have never tried tea loaf, is it like the Soreen malt loaf?

Bananadog, you'd have ended up in the middle of a domestic if you'd come to play Yahtzee,I told my son to put a zero in Yahtzee as he only had that and his sixes left to get and he only got one six, guess what he threw on his next go ....... Yes, Yahtzee with five 5's, on his first throw as well, I was definitely not his best friend  At least I had half a tonne of chocolate brownies to gain back his friendship!!
For all you bakers out there, I have just been on the Wright's flour site, filled in a survey for 5 minutes and got 25% off my next order for my time!!! I've ordered 15 1kg bags of bread flour + 1 pack of 125g yeast and it came to the grand total of £11.99!!

Well I baked my first ever batch of *** ****. I can't say what they are because their name is now verboten all I can say is they had marge, sugar, flour, oats and syrup in them and although I say so myself they were delicious.
We also used our new breadmaker last night and baked our first "rapid loaf" which didn't last long!!!0 -
I have some Susan Reimer Triple Choc Chunk Muffins in the oven.
However, I am using choc chips not chunks and I only have the cocao and milk choc chips, so I suppose it is double choc chip muffins really.
Some recipes say to leave the muffins in the tin for 5 mins before putting them on a cake rack, some say to take them out straight away to avoid condensation in the muffin tray, causing the cake to go soggy.
What do most people do, leave them in the tin or take out straight away?
I have noticed a couple of times that the bottom of the paper case was wet when I had left them in the tray.0 -
Hi there,
Had a major baking day today as my parents coming tomorrow and I'm doing proper afternoon tea so today I have made (deep breath) white bread and brown bread for the sandwiches, vanilla custard slices, meringues sandwiched with rosewater buttercream, chocolate eclairs and a lemon cake. Phew. Sitting down for a well earned rest now.0 -
made strawberry creams today - like peppermint creams but using strawberry flavouring, decided to cover them in chocolate, and realised should have made them into ball shapes, not cut out rounds! the choc just sat on the top and I used the lot! if they had been round it would have run down and covered most of the strawberry cream! tomorrow I have to go and buy more choc and finish them off! but the pink mice I made with some of the strawberry cream and sprinkled with caster sugar and given glace cherry ears are looking really good!
I also tried a new faggot recipe for supper as the old recipe was getting really expensive (it uses half belly pork and the price on that has gone through the roof! was in Adsa the other day and the belly pork was nearly as dear as the pork chops! the old recipe also takes ages to prepare and cook - I didnt really think that this new recipe would work - but it does, beautifully!!!!!!!!!! I DID have to add more breadcrumbs than the recipe said otherwise it was too wet to make into balls, but the finished result was lovely!
all in all - I am pretty pleased at the result of todays baking! the mistakes can be rectified and I know I will use the recipes again.
Oh could you please share your strawberry creams recipe, I lurrrve peperment creams and so does my mummy xThriftkitten
