  • I made a huge batch of jam cookies - only trouble is I ate a load of them and then couldn't fancy any tea and now I feel really sick! They are "millies" style cookies and are so easy (too easy IYKWIM) - just 1 cup of butter or marg, 1 cup of sugar and 2 cups of self raising flour with a pinch of salt. Just mix it all together with a wooden spoon in a big bowl and then make little balls and bake them (really well spaced out cos they spread) for 12 minutes. I put my thumb in the top of the ball and fill it with jam but you can make all different kinds by adding choc chips, smarties, chopped toffees etc into the mixture.

Sounds great! Can you please tell me the oven temp for that. Also did you use caster sugar or granulated? Thank you! :T

    I'm making an apple pie.
The ball of pastry is in the fridge at the moment.

I have been given a lot of cooking apples this year,by people who either don't have time to do anything with them,
or they grow them but don't actually like them.

Lemon Drizzle cake - sadly not for us, but Son and Wife who we are visiting tomorrow.

Standard BBC Good Food recipe, but I hadn't tried it before.

    Hi
I'm new to this forum so HELLO EVERYONE! :j
I made the Lemon drizzle cake (bbc recipe) yesterday and it is YUMMY!
The kids nicked a huge piece each to take to school today so I think I'm going to have to make another quick!

Today I made jam drops (some with nutella) and I'm going to make chocolate caramel slices in a minute.

...can you tell I have a sweet tooth? :o

Well I bought a pork shoulder and marinaded it in bbq sauce and cooked it for 5-6 hours really slowly low temp today but it didnt fall apart as it should (think it had too much fat inside it and it was boneless) I'll have to rethink as it's not like the ones I saw on the tv and I didnt get as much meat off it as I hoped...im wondering if I can do the same thing with a leaner joint? The main thing is you can pull it apart gently with a fork so that it can easily be shredded to put on sandwiches.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and hopefully I will actually learn how to cook....cant bear the thought of serving out nuggets and smiley faces anymore! :rotfl:
Why does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!
  • ...one more thing, Ive heard about these great apple muffins and i really want my youngest to eat more with fruit in it...anyone got a recipe as I dont know whether i should shred or puree the apples for it? thanks x

When I've made apple muffins, I've always grated the apples.
  • I have one, but it doesn't live in the oven all the time because I find it annoying when taking things in and out, and when the oven is behaving itself I get a bit lazy about checking.

Anyway we've decided that enough is enough and we are putting up with this wretched house no longer (the oven is only one problem out of an extensive list, including kitchen drawers that are literally falling apart), so as of now we are househunting and hopefully we'll not be putting up with the hateful oven for much longer :D

OMG are you living in my house, sounds just like where I live lol

  • Am gonna start baking with the kids on Saturday aft, they are 4.5 and 3. I have done fairy cakes, cookies and basic biscuits with them, is there anything else fairly simple to make with them? Also can anyone reccommend a book with a good array of baking recipes?

    Thanks
