Sounds like an interesting recipe... I'm not sure I would have topped the cake with cheese or with lentil loaf though..
Seriously though, thats an impressive list!
I thought I did well on SUnday doing two batches of scones, bread and a carrot cake.0 -
Ooooh please can you share the recipe for this
I am normally a believer that shortbread shouldnt be messed with (with the exception of maybe choc chips or cinnamon at xmas time) but that sounds lovley
I don't really have a recipe as such! It will probably be 300g flour, 200g butter, 100g sugar (or a multiple, depending on how much DH wants), and I might replace some of the flour with rice flour for a nice crunchy texture. Then zest of an orange, or two if I double the recipe, and some chocolate chips I found in the cupboard, probably about 50g. Stick in the oven at about 160 till done.
Shortbread used to be my nemesis, but I've got the hang of it ever since I've had to make mountains of it at work!0 -

Baked my very first Dundee cake and it's turned out very nicely. The almonds on the top look quite posh:)
I put a dash of port in with the fruit and it smells all Christmassy.
The recipe was from an old book from the WI. I am working through the book trying as many as I can. So far, they seem idiot-proof
That sounds totally lushSounds like an interesting recipe... I'm not sure I would have topped the cake with cheese or with lentil loaf though..Seriously though, thats an impressive list!

I've got to be honest, I don't normally do so many things at once - although I want to get into the habit more - but I was kind of on a roll!
I bought some flour to make bread with (by hand, I don't have a bread maker) about 3 months ago, but it's still sat in the cupboardI just can't seem to pluck up the courage

Having just spent three days with my inlaws eating ready meals and dying for some proper food, I've been home less than an hour and have made some cheese and black pepper scones (and scoffed two of them), got a batch of dough proving for bread rolls for tonight's dinner (which will be turkey burgers) and after a little sit down to watch last night's Masterchef The Professionals, I'm going to do some chocolate chip & orange shortbread for DH's biscuit drawer at work.
Would love your cheese and black pepper scone recipe, if you don't mind! I made wholemeal cheese scones last week and they were really heavy0 -
I'm now very hungry and that's just reading the last page...... although it's not strictly baking I did make some plum and apple jam yesterday and very nice it is too.
Tonight I'm gonna make an apple pie and DP:eek: the guy who never makes anything really (apart from a decent english breakfast) is making mince and dumplings for tea so if I'm still alive tomorrow I'll let you all know whether they were niceSealed pot challenge - member no:506

From memory, this is what I think I put in:
225g SR flour
Pinch of salt (I use Maldon because I'm a salt snob)
70g butter (I used Flora light because I'm on weightwatchers... sigh)
Lump of low fat cheddar cheese that I'd guess was about 50g, grated (red leicester would be nice if you have it)
Teaspoon of mustard powder
Half a teaspoon of baking powder
Cracked black pepper (a really good pinch, probably a good half a teaspoon)
Milk (I used skimmed but whatever you have)
Sieve flour, salt, baking powder and mustard powder into a bowl. Rub in the fat. Add the cheese and black pepper and mix it all around. Add some milk, just enough to make a soft dough that isn't too wet. Turn it out onto the worktop, pat it out to about an inch thick and cut out - I used a small cutter and got about ten little scones. Brush the top with milk. Bake at 220º for about 12-15 minutes till they look done. Scoff while still hot, obviously :rotfl:
Sorry if that's a bit haphazard, I do tend to throw things in and go by what looks right!
I've done the chocolate orange shortbread, had to do two batches and the first was gorgeous, but my horrid HORRID oven fluctuates in temperature spectacularly and it decided that this would be a good time to go up about 20 degrees between the first and second batch, so the second batch came out rather burnt  I really wish the thing would break completely so the landlord would have to replace it, but "useless for any kind of baking" isn't really good enough for him0 -
How about buying an oven thermometer angeltreats? - that way you'd be able to tell when your oven is fluctuating. I'm getting one as soon as I can, as my top oven does the same, only mine seems hotter at the back than it does at the front, but it'll give me an idea of what's going on.

i wouldn't like to say as cheese tends to go crumble and dry out abit once frozen i would bung 2-3 in the freezer then defrost and taste cant see the ingredients being a problem to freezer but i don't have a clue as to how they would come out after being defrosted.
sorry its not that much help
pretzHippeechiq wrote: »I don't see why not - they sound delicious!
The Cheese & Lentil loaf I make has grated cheese, egg, milk and oats in (plus a few other things) and that freezes beautifully, but Pretz's idea is good, then you'll know for sure without risking the whole batch
Thanks for the replies.
I actually used cheese that I grated and froze on Saturday, so it might be even crumblier!
I'll put most of them in the freezer and hope for the best. Last time I made them I stupidly didn't even put them in the fridge and they started growing fur within a couple of days
They are really tastyI've got a savoury tooth so they're perfect for me and they're quite filling.
