I just thought "but it's far too early" and then I remembered it's September already! Scary.
I don't know if I'll bother with a Christmas cake this year. I still have half of last year's.0 -

inspired by my success with Apple tart and then Blackberry Tarts, and after watching Nigella make honeycomb - which i USED to make loads of when the kids were little...............I decided to make honeycomb!
well...............I THINK I have invented a new sweet and am going to call it 'HoneyGum'. It looks, smells and tastes exactly like honeycomb - the difference being, you get a few crunches then it magically changes to a consistency of chewy toffee which lasts for at least ten minutes before mysteriously dissolving completely! oh and one other magical property is that it sticks the top teeth to the bottom teeth at the chewy stage and silence reigns! both my OH and my youngest son were taste testers for this one and they both agreed - I may be on to a real winner with this one (but I aint sure exactly where I went wrong as I followed the recipe to the letter!)0 -
Today I made a custard tart for the first time - we have hens now, and good egg production, so I'd like to get this in my repertoire. The result wasn't that good (I used a recipe found online) - does any of you have a tried and tested method?
I baked the pastry blind first (which I never do with things like quiche - but the recipe said so). The end result was too dark, nearly burnt at the bottom and the custardy bit looks too brown as well. It sticks to the tin quite badly. But on the upside, it tastes quite nice!
Can I get away with not blind baking? Do I need a different type of pastry? What oven temperature would you recommend, and how long should I bake it for?
A good recipe and your advice would be much appreciated!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
